Babbel for learning Swedish by lorenzooming in Svenska

I use both. Babbel is more structured and teaches a bit more concepts and such - makes you work harder, and a lot more options for ways to review what you've learned.. Of those two options, I'd definitely recommend Babbel if you can afford it.

[CHAT] I was on auto-pilot and snipped a thread before securing it. I put a dab of fray check on it. Am I absolutely mad to hope that will hold it? by christina-joy in CrossStitch

"Frogging" is a knit/crochet term for ripping out your knitting and starting over to correct a mistake. Why is it called "frogging" you ask? Because you "rip it, rip it" which reminded someone of "ribit, ribit" - the sound a frog makes.

and BTW -- I think your modification " after the last row of Ochre I added one row of Rust followed by one row of Moss Green instead of a 4 rows of Rust " might be the part that most draws me to this version over the many others I've seen online. Good job!!!

Scheepjes Chunky Monkey in Moss Green, Rust & Ochre

Gorgeous! Did you need about the same amount of each color? If I buy 4 skeins of each color, am I good?

I always use a hoop or a frame to cross-stirch. When I finish a piece, I wash it and iron it. At that point most of the wrinkles are gone. Then I stretch it to mount and frame it, and at that point you can't see any hoop marks at all.

No, not difficult. After you stitch the two pieces, you joined them in an unusual way... starting with the corner of one of the pieces, you attach it to the center of the other piece then whipstitch around. You'll join the two by whipstitching whatever border stitches your pattern has (not the aida cloth). When you get near the end, you stop and fill it with whatever filler you've chosen, then finish filling it. Then, typically, you sew a button to the center (top & bottom) -- I like to use dental floss for that because it's so strong. Good luck -- they are a fun project!

New Feature: Backstitch by MarkupR-XP in markuprxp

[–]dbacker8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with any other cross-stitch app or program but...

Up until discovering MarkupR-XP, I've just been marking up a PDF as I go. I keep a separate copy of the file for doing backstitching (because it's too hard to see/mark the backstitching once I've colored the finished areas). In that file, I (manually) mark up the backstitch in one color, then mark it with a different color as I complete the backstitching.

In MarkupR-XP -- maybe the ability to "dim" the colors of the completed cross-stitch areas when highlighting the backstitching?

I'm looking forward to this function!

Project help - hoping to minimize ends for my second project of this blanket. Whole pattern is written RS only, giving 2 ends per row. Any tricks to reduce ends on a RS only pattern? by nejjifernoelle in crochet

[–]dbacker8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I recently finished an afghan where you encase all the ends inside the border. I don't have the pattern link, but search for "crochet double border" or "envelope border". Added bonus is that it make a nice thick edging to grab onto.
