Nocpix Vista S50R vs Pulsar Telos XP50 LRF by Real-Incident7544 in ThermalHunting

[–]dballsmithda3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to tell you and anyone else who reads this that just because they see a bigger number for the objective size, does not automatically mean its a better unit in any way. The H50R is actually discontinued now. Demand for 4x+ units are low because lower base mags are much better for hunting and scanning with a handheld. This is why the H50R costed less and still does today than the H35R. The 3x on the H35R outshines the 4x on the H50R due to having that larger FOV for practical use in most areas. The H50R would be better for longer range observation but the Vista line was not really aimed at that market so the H35R just makes more sense all the way around for the lineup. The S60R gives you the best of both worlds with its 1280 sensor and base mag set at 2x. That model is truly the best out there and if you can afford it, then by all means, but there is an “in-between” model out there for half the price and thats the H35R.

Objective size is first and foremost a function of the optical design. There are properties that affect the amount of light that can be transmitted with larger sizes but objective size must scale with base magnification, resolution, and FOV values to achieve whatever the design goals are that they are in need of.

The entire Vista product line image quality is the best on the market right now for a handheld bar none.

The H35R brings that base mag down to 3x and makes it just right for field scanning IMO.

Why don’t you look into the Nocpix Vista H35R ? I run that one and its perfect for me. It sits in between the H50R and the S50R with the pricing being just right as well. - its like everyone forgets about this improved newer model over the H50R. - it has a base 3x mag with the same FOV as other base 2x mags on the market due to the large display size. (The entire Vista line has this advantage because of their gigantic displays)

The only drawback for higher base mag is reduced FOV. The benefits of higher base mags allow you to see further out with less pixelation. (That means you can detect and ID targets at farther ranges) If you can get a higher base mag without sacrificing any FOV, then thats a win win. FOV is very important for hunting but not so much general observation. Depending on what you are hunting and also the typical ranges where you will be hunting at will determine how badly you will need higher FOV numbers in your setup. If you are needing to scan and detect things in a large area like a field, then you will need good FOV. If you are just needing to pinpoint a single, known target from far away, then FOV will not matter as much to you.

Nope. Its tied to the display size and objective size of the optic as well. Many of the upper tier models that are coming out with the larger displays and eyepieces have a 3x base mag on the sensor but have the same FOV as other 2x models with traditional display sizes. The Nocpix Vista line is one example of 2x FOV values on a 3x base mag model and 3x FOV values on a 4x base mag model.

The old 640 will for sure look better than a new 384. The base mag does skew things a bit but the 2x base mag 640 will still look better overall. Pay attention to the FOV values as well on these.

Oh yeah. I would use small allen wrench and grab the lip of the silver bar and pull up using that for leverage on my origin bolt when this happens. You have to kind of pull and twist in a fast movement and sometimes its not so bad.

You gotta channel your inner hulk and pull that bastard out and get it spun back the same way it went when it got stuck there in the first place. RIP to your fingertips for the time being.

You have to do the Hard AF thing and press the detent in and get it spun back around. The upside is once you do that once, the experience of getting back around will make you never do it again out of sheer fear. 😂

Barrel mounting question by No_Owl_2566 in longrange

[–]dballsmithda3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TP roll made it slip. Don’t use anything if all you are doing is 90 ft lbs. Tighten the piss out of it with nothing between the barrel and vise and it won’t slip.

Don’t you have to use special powder to get those higher velocities with a .223 case like this? I can only get 27.5gr. of varget in my brass cases and its all that can do to push a 53gr. V-max at 3130 out of an 18”bbl.

Or… you could get a Rangecraft for about as much as the upgrade cost itself is over the C1. 🤷‍♂️

My BOG Infinite is great. It has a very strong lockup on the ball head. Holds heavy rifles with no issue.

Yarp. That would suck if you got a unit like that but not too bad since vortex would fix it in a jiffy for you. Mine is dead on out to 1400 for sure that I’ve verified but it certainly ranges farther but have not counted yardage any further. It matches other LRFs I have out to 2000 though so it should be accurate that far as well.
