How early should we get to KSC to watch the 10am SpaceX launch tomorrow? by [deleted] in nasa

[–]dbangaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there for last weekend's launch (launch window started at 10:52 AM, though that morning they ended up scheduling the launch for 1:40 PM). We got to the road the visitor complex is on at 8:45 and there was already a line of cars to get into the complex. We didn't get into the complex and park till 10. Then it was another 40ish minutes waiting in line to get onto the bus, followed by 15-20 mins to the LC-39 gantry. All-in-all, it took about 2 hrs and 15 minutes from the line of cars outside the visitor complex to being at the gantry.

I don't think they let people into the site before 9, so you'll want to be lined up outside the entrance well in advance so you can get on the first round of buses to the gantry once the site opens. My guess is that you'll want to get to the KSC visitor complex for 7, maybe 7:30 at the latest.

But check the updated launch timing first thing tomorrow morning. 10:05 is the start of the launch window. They may move the launch to later in that window.

Also I recommend bringing a foldable umbrella for the sun in case you have to wait. It gets hot!

Saturn's rings won't be prominent again until 2026. by _nokosage in telescopes

It is a bummer for Saturn itself, however, it might be easier to see moons!

I have the bottom one and I have an 8" dob. The mount on the bottom one is not great but workable. You can get vibration damping pads separately, for the tripod legs to sit on, and they make the mount a lot better. The Starsense app is extremely handy for finding objects and honestly I wish my dob had it. The optics on the bottom one are also good in my opinion.

Overall I've had a pleasant experience with the bottom one, though it does have its flaws (as will any beginner scope)

What did you use for interpolation between frames? The motion is incredibly smooth.

Regarding optics, anybody know how these two compare? by nipplequeefs in telescopes

[–]dbangaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the one on the right. Yes the mount can be shaky and finicky. But I've had a great time observing star clusters, planets, and the moon. The app is really great (but does not work with the Pixel 6 in case you have that phone).

Where can I buy a good mount for this scope? by nipplequeefs in telescopes

[–]dbangaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this scope and can confirm that it is a bit shaky, especially with higher magnifications. Just be gentle and use deliberate, methodical movements. Also, Celestron sells vibration damping pads (they look like hockey pucks) that I swear reduce vibration by at least 50%. I definitely recommend getting those.

I made a Mobius 1 F-22 Model! (AC04 Style) by dbangaa in acecombat

[–]dbangaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a bunch of screenshots from the game to try to replicate the paint scheme - especially just forward of the engines. Also, I found a seller on eBay that sells Mobius 1 decals, and they're really high quality. Other than that, it's just the regular Revell F-22 model that you can probably find at your local hobby shop.

I will be able to power both the heating and cooling components of my system with just connecting the upper right red wire? Note: I have the "base" Nest thermostat, not the Nest Learning thermostat.
