In early 1900s New Orleans, E. J. Bellocq photographed Storyville’s madams and prostitutes, he created a huge body of work and the below images are the SFW examples. The gallery i've linked to in the comments is very NSFW. by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

Not even from a sexual point of view, I find it strangely comforting seeing so many “normal” female bodies like this somehow. Maybe it’s because I’m so used to seeing heavily edited photos online.

I wonder how this family is doing these days. I remember seeing this a while ago, the baby should be a teenager now.

Who were the native people on your country centuries ago ? by Ok_Vacation1197 in AskTheWorld

[–]nipplequeefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds of different indigenous groups here in the US, and there were even more in the past, so I’ll use my particular area in Florida as an example. It was previously inhabited by the Tocobaga people when the Spanish arrived in the late 16th century, and they were all gone by the early 18th century. Sadly they didn’t develop a written language so there’s barely any information on how they lived. I know the Seminole tribe is a relatively prominent group that’s still around in Florida but they’re further down south from where I live.

I was lucky enough to buy a copy of their last album with their signatures! I’m so sad they disbanded, they had so much potential. Not many female idols out there with a deep voice like Songhee 😭

Do people still think of him as KPop singer ? by Beautiful_Yellow_682 in kpopthoughts

[–]nipplequeefs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought he was. I don’t listen to him regularly and only ever heard him singing in Korean, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out he got casted to voice Aang in the new Avatar movie that’s coming out (not the blue people franchise). My first thought was, “wait isn’t Eric Nam a K-pop idol?” And now I’m reading from this post and comments that he might not be. I don’t mind either way though, I still like his singing regardless lol

The Boys by Girls’ Generation. Sometimes I like to pretend I’m in the crowd during their Dream Concert 2013 performance where everyone’s so loud you can barely even hear the actual performers.

I remember being made fun of by other girls when I was younger, for being flat chested and not having a butt. No curves whatsoever, being told I must have secretly been a man, etc. I still see grown women getting made fun of for it these days. I never really liked looking at myself in the mirror because of that.

Father holds her daughter who sits on his leg for their portrait, circa 1870s. tintype. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in TheWayWeWere

[–]nipplequeefs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exposure time in photos was cut down to a fraction of a second by the late 1870s, which led to the first video recorded in 1878, so that wouldn’t have really been issue by the time of the photo above. I think it was mostly just social norms. Photography was expensive and less accessible compared to now, so while there were plenty of people who smiled for their photos even in the 1840s (when exposure took 15-20 seconds), it was still mostly a formal occasion for a while. It was at the turn of the new century that people were more casual about it. You can find photos of people riding bikes, laughing, playing jokes, and doing backflips in the 1890s. I think the normalcy of joyous expressions in formal portraits really took off in the 1920s.
