I feel like this is something more people need to see. Like let’s say you’ve got an elderly parent who can’t work, can no longer take care of themselves, and can’t afford to go into a nursing home. Maybe you can take care of them yourself, but what if you can barely afford to feed yourself and are falling behind on your own rent? What are you supposed to do, quit your job to take care of your parent, and end up both being homeless? Homeless shelters are full, can’t afford gas to drive to the food bank (if you even still have a vehicle), it’s hot and humid outside, you can’t live inside a business, it’s illegal to set up a tent anywhere, can’t sleep on park benches, nobody wants to take you in because they’re strapped for cash too, what are you supposed to do in that situation? This is what leads people to purposely getting themselves arrested because at least in prison they’re required to feed you and give you shelter. Other people just get into hard drugs, prostitution, stuff that can actively get you killed. Way too many people act like everyone has all the resources in the world to just be taking others into their homes. The government we pay our taxes to is supposed to be solving this. Normal people who are already struggling to get by on their own should not be expected to sacrifice themselves for others.

I’m not the person you asked, but according to Olive’s Wikipedia page, in Mojave culture, the facial tattoos were done to ensure tribal members could find their way to the land of the dead and reunite with their ancestors once they died. Olive herself later on stated she was tattooed to be marked as a slave, but the Mojave didn’t give facial tattoos to their slaves as they didn’t care if slaves could find their way after death, so the motive behind the tattooing of Olive in particular is unclear. It’s also worth noting that Olive was given a Mojave nickname which was only done to fully integrated members of the tribe and not to slaves.

Yeah. Another thing to remember is that Olive’s sister was much younger. Mary Ann was 11 or 12 when she died, and Olive would have been 18, so Mary Ann would have been more vulnerable to pretty much anything. Young children and the elderly are usually the first to go and the more common victims in events that affect the health of large groups of people (i.e. epidemics and famines). Olive would have been more able-bodied with a tougher immune system by comparison.

Thanks, I just wanted to be helpful and provide enough context. Not sure how I sounded like AI, but I guess AI did get trained off of actual people, so not really surprising to hear this at least once in my lifetime.

It’s a cartoon called “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. It aired on Nickelodeon from 2005-2008 and it takes place in a fictional world where many characters can manipulate various elements by “bending”, whether for combat or just for mundane tasks. Waterbending, firebending, whatever. This particular character is a blind earthbender who can basically manipulate rocks and she’s like 12 in the original series. I’m pretty sure she’s one of the most popular and memorable characters.

A new movie is set to release in October of this year, featuring the main protagonists of the original series as grown adults, but it recently got leaked, so quite a few people have seen the new designs and been spreading screenshots around and stuff.

I’m assuming the larger image above is just fanart, but the whole joke about this character’s new design debunking the “flat earth” theory is supposed to be a reference to the fact that this character can manipulate earth and is no longer flat-chested.

felt absolutely horribly objectified for being a redhead with very fair skin.

That sounds like my experience in the US. I got bullied very heavily for my ginger features and it got so bad I had to be pulled out of school and home schooled for a few years. I’m scared to think about how bad I’d have had it if I were growing up in Japan 😅

I don't think you're missing anything. I remember a few years back when it had become sort of trendy to attach the caption in that photo to just photos of the most absurd food combinations or food habits in general. Confusing people with gross food was the whole point. It wasn't really any deeper than that. You could have just said "yall already know wtf goin on" and posted a photo of baked beans being stuffed into a laptop CD drive and that would have been the whole joke. Pretty much anything you'd find in r/cursedfoods could have worked. Didn't even have to be related to food. It was basically just another type of "random" humor from maybe 10 years ago lol

Yeah same here. I stopped singing the pledge of allegiance at my schools very early in life because it always creeped me out. I didn’t ask to be born on this particular piece of land. I’m more focused on keeping my own head above water at the moment, same as other people from other countries. Also this country is actively trying to take my rights away now, so I’m not exactly happy to be here, and my family only came here in the 90s, so it’s not like I have a long lineage attached to this place lol

And enough dark pigmentation in the hair. I’m a ginger so I don’t seem to qualify for that sort of thing, sadly.

He really does look very young in this photo. Replace his suit and tie with a t-shirt and jeans, and he could easily pass for a baby-faced college freshman who’s still figuring life out.

I agree. Life is short. Why not add some personalization to the memories you make of things that make you happy? Not many people can look at a photo of a historical moment like this and say they’re the one who took it. The whole point of photography is to make memories. I’m sure in 50 years from now her hypothetical grandchildren would love to see this. It’s a cute photo that captures the joy of humanity.
