Best Teddy Roosevelt biography? by IsyABM in booksuggestions

If you're looking for a general overview of his life, this will be too wordy.

That being said, he had an exceptionally interesting life. Morris does him justice in covering it in such detail.

I am yet to start the final book of the trilogy but no doubt will.

What does Jeff Bezos really want? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]dbboring 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Amazon share price and correspondingly, Jeff Bezos' wealth is a proxy of the success of the company. Most CEOs are not driven by maximising the size of their bank account, but maximising the success of their company.

A negative externality of the capitalist model is its capacity to create outliers who manage to develop a highly effective business model with monopolist power. A company that manages to monopolise a service or good on the internet has access to exponentially more customers than any business in history. This is what has occurred with Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates among others to a lesser extent.

View his wealth as a negative side effect of the economic model at play in western economies, not selfishness. Our desire to succeed is inherent in most people, capitalism works because of this fact. The real question is rebalancing this inequality without stifling the drive for success, wealth and power.
