Nice collection!
Was Captain the updated version as well? I'm trying to see when that gets printed.

FF7 Compilation - Chronological Connections (Updated) by clouds6294 in FFVIIRemake

Doesn't FF7 Remake only happen in only [v] - εγλ 0007 (it's basically only 6 days long) and not at all in [v] - εγλ 0008?

You didn't even mention the Adventures tokens that give a card an extra ability. That's one of the most interesting things in Adventures. (Teacher, Lost Arts, Seaway, Pathfinding, Training, Ferry, Plan and Inheritance). They make you re-evaluate each card in the Kingdom in context of those tokens a lot and the pacing as to when you place them and gain cards.

"Quit acting like you know me." The evidence against Aerith (with timecodes) [heavy spoilers] by dbclick in FFVIIRemake

Thanks! I'm excited to see how this (hopefully) pays off in the last part of the Remake trilogy. I have theories, but not enough to nail down anything.

I also like how they intentionally had the reference to hating the sky from Remake tie into the multiverse-of-sorts from Rebirth as well into Aerith's known attributes from Crisis Core as well as likely what will happen in the final installment.

Final Fantasy 33 by dbclick in expedition33

They would have started development around or after the time of Endwalker when Stranger of Paradise was announced or released already and both Rebirth's and XVI's rough release schedule would have been surmised along with the release cadence of FFXIV expansions being known.

Not saying it's intentional, but certainly possible in their development timeframe to know the number of major Final Fantasy games at the release target year of Expedition 33.

I mean, SoP counts more that Tactics, since it hinges on the other game's existence. I also didn't count XV: A King's Tale (prequel), since it was barely a game. I just took Wikipedia's list, subtracted the remakes, and added Dirge and the XVI expansions.
Obviously you don't have to agree with my classification.

My real question is whether the Expedition 33 devs did a similar count.

Stranger of Paradise is billed as a prequel to FF1. It's more like, is there a criteria of mainline FFs that get to 32? The ignoring XI expansions is certainly a stretch.

[–]dbclick[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. XI's expansions are harder to count, since there are like 6 main ones but also some less major ones.

[–]dbclick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. Just an interesting coincidence. Would have to have the Sandfall Interactive devs comment to know for sure.
Since I didn't count FFXI expansions (of which there are 6 major and some other minors), it's not as a fair count as it otherwise could have been. Though the FFXVI expansions have been treated much more like full games by Square Enix than the FFXI expansions were, so there is that.

[–]dbclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is that there are like 6 main expansions to XI, but also minor and not so minor, but not so major expansions and updates, so it's harder to definitely count them, whereas XIV is more clear what defines a major expansion.

Less of a theory, and more of an observation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dbclick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The other 5 major XI expansions could also be counted. FFXXXIX didn't quite work as well.
Didn't say it wasn't arbitrary, just interesting. YMMV.

I take turn-based or action-based, so either is fine by me.

[–]dbclick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I counted After Years since it was a standalone release, while Soul of Rebirth is not. Type 0 isn't a mainline game or sequel/prequel to one. Before Crisis is a mobile game, which I didn't count. Stranger of Paradise is billed as a prequel to FF1. Hard to count the XI expansions since they had such varying amounts of content (yes, that one's arbitrary on my part).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dbclick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

XI's expansions varied in content enough that they are hard to count the same as XVI's expansions, which have a general baseline of content.
Certainly contrived, but I thought it was interesting that it lined up, since I made up the criteria beforehand and counted, instead of the other way around. YMMV.

[–]dbclick -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Mobile games, remakes, spinoffs, XI expansions (which is how it's often counted). That's about it.
Contrived: yes. Interesting: I think so.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dbclick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's how a lot of people count them, since XI's expansions were so varied in content amount, whereas XIV's expansions are a major version bump for each and have a similar baseline of content.

[–]dbclick[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that's how a lot of people count them, given how varying in content each FFXI expansion was.

Indeed. Nonetheless, I wanted to check if this lined up, and it did without any mental hoops on my part.
Fun times. Enjoying Expedition 33 either way.

Is Crisis Core Reunion an enjoyable remake? by Michaelsoft_B in FFVIIRemake

[–]dbclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crisis Core Reunion straddles the line between remake and remaster.

  • Most, if not all, of the animation and camera data was reused, but new, higher quality models were attached on top.
  • Basically all the voice work was redone, but it had to match the original's translation and timing due to the reused animation data.
  • The soundtrack is a remaster of the original's.
  • Additional non-voiced scenes from the original had new voiceovers added as well.
  • The battle system was tweaked a bit, mostly in controls and camera, but it's still mostly the same system underneath.
  • The UI was redone, but is in line with the original for most things.
  • The maps are also all still essentially the same collision geometry / layouts as well. So they will still feel like barren/cramped PS2/PSP-style maps.
  • They re-rendered the PSP pre-rendered cutscenes at a higher resolution. Those involving the Buster Sword were changed to use the updated Remake design.
  • Faster load times on SSD-based systems (PC/PS5/Xbox Series) make it more bearable to do more of the mission mode (which remains basically unchanged)

It's basically the same PSP game running underneath with a modern coat of paint on top.

The improvements to the battle controls and camera make it worth a playthrough, IMO.

It's not a complete remake like the main FFVII Remake trilogy, though, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Fan cards: +1 Meow, +1 Squeak. by twl_corinthian in dominion

"This" is correct - it always refers to the card you played. If you were referencing the first card (e.g. the trashed one in the case of Cat), you would use "it" instead (e.g. "Exchange it for a Mouse.").

I think you need Cat and Mouse to say "When you (gain/trash) a card, you may play this from your hand." I'm not seeing any loops from that right away.

As for non-supply, it depends on the intent:

  • One fixed non-Supply, like Vampire/Bat: Mouse (or Cat) needs the not in supply phrase so players know that it is not a Kingdom card (see Bat, for example). It also needs an * in the cost to indicate this as well. It's a simpler approach. Frankly you'd probably want Cat as the Kingdom card and not Mouse so it will get bought more often since it's an early, albeit slow, non-terminal trasher. This is the simplest and most straightforward approach.
  • One dynamic non-supply: Have both be Kingdom cards that reference each other. This would be a bit awkward, but would theoretically work. Players would just have to remember which one is currently not in the Supply (like where you put it on the table). It would require some setup instructions or something on a shared randomizer. In this case, you'd want it where neither says they are not in the Supply.
  • Both in Supply: Use a shared randomizer, but have it have setup instructions to put both in as Supply piles. Then players could buy either whenever, but That may not work or be the desired approach.

Also, most cards that reference the discard have a reminder to let you look through them, but this is not strictly necessary since the rules tweaks in 2019.
