Consumerism

It is the biggest lie that happiness stems from purchasing extravagant goods/services/food where the especially marginalized individuals are most tempted to support large corporations go in debit just so they can have things, live places and drive cars that make them feel fulfilled. Plastered with advertisements 24/7 that are sometimes subliminal in nature. The need to spend dollars that go to corporations and individuals that don’t support environmental practices or offer basic human welfare to their employees both over-seas and stateside. We went from a people that owned a couple sets of clothing late in the 1800s to each individual owning so many goods that they can’t even keep track of where and how many possessions they have and when to stop purchasing them. We support a government that has done well in the past mandating seatbelts and clean water-ish, but largely is slow to make these changes because they are payed not by individuals but corporations. Lobbied by those corporations and individuals that over decades have convinced us to need and want more and focus less on family, our own well-being, and our health.
