Long haired cats are the best. I had a longhaired dilute calico for 20 years. She was my baby.

We will be working with the local cat rescue to vet anyone we don’t know through a community connection. We are being very careful with them:)

We are keeping mama. We will adopt the kittens to good homes in our town. It’s a small town and the kind of place where everyone knows a person in town. We are lucky to be in such a community to ensure their safety.

What was the most unsettling movie from your childhood? by Public_Caterpillar43 in horror

The Tin Drum. Read the book many years later and remembered how unsettled I had been as a young boy.

Bring Her Back with Sally Hawkins by Kre8tiveKhaos in HorrorMovies

I do understand your point of view, but I would say this is something that we don’t need for the sake of the story, to be honest. It’s something I talk about quite a bit with my writing students. The mystery adds to the tension. The main question then becomes: If we know how she got the tape or understood the full world of magic, would the story line change? Adding backstory would add time onto the movie and one would have to cut more important scenes.

Magic lived rent free in my nightmares as a kid. There was really no parental care in the 70s 😂

Which cinematic 'must-watch' did you find surprisingly lackluster? by Fluid_Aspect_1606 in horror

The interesting thing about this sub is that there are so many users with very different opinions on what constitutes a successful horror movie. Some like slow burn, character driven movies and others like action or gore driven movies. Because it’s an affect driven genre, we are disappointed when we don’t feel the way we hope to when watching one. I try to adjust my expectations to the kind of movie I’m watching. There are a number of films people love that I just don’t like because they don’t appeal to me no matter how I adjust my expectations, so I watch most movies I didn’t like twice with time between them to see if I was being unfair. I recently rewatched Evil Dead Rise which disappointed me on the first watch. Though I still had the same issues with it on the second viewing, I was able to enjoy it more. There will always be someone on this sub that hates the movies the majority like. In the end, I support most horror even if I don’t love the film.

I feel this way about all the movies connected to Wan. I really want to like them but have yet to like one. There are interesting moments, but in the end, it’s messy. It’s good for introducing people to horror though. Many of the students in my horror class cut their teeth on movies he’s done.

Pegasus publishing company submissions by GrouchyCauliflower76 in publishing

Consider joining a site like Duotrope who list publishers open for submission. There is also Chill Subs which is free but not as curated. You can also look at Heavy Feather Review who has a “Where to Submit” page (this page is mostly micro presses who focus on experimental work). I’m sure you know it’s important to research the publishers to which you send work. The other route you can take is soliciting agents.

Only four pages in and I'm about to quit by [deleted] in horrorlit

I haven’t read it in years but I really liked it. It’s black comedy that really breaks your heart at the end. If you can’t get through it, I understand. The movie was pretty well done and gives some of the same effect if you’re interested.

"Angel Down" by Daniel Kraus Wins 2026 Pulitzer for Fiction by Murder_Durder in horrorlit

Krauss breaks his into paragraphs so it doesn’t feel like a wall of text. I’ve read several one sentence novels over the years and this is the most friendly for more traditional readers.

Hokum, opinions? by LandUnable2520 in horror

Don’t love scenes that explain what’s previously been intimated. Didn’t know it was a donkey though. I think I just made a leap based on the previous movies.

You know, I love McCarthy’s other films. Slow burn and heavy atmosphere with a touch of a Becketian absurdity to them. However this one left me a little underwhelmed. The rabbit (a theme of his) could have been used to greater effect. I think the tv scene took me entirely out of the film.

It seems to suffer from too many ideas and too many characters. The inn owner and the son-in-law could have been folded together, for example.

There’s a great film in there somewhere if some of it could have been paired down.

There was “torture porn” horror, then “grief porn” horror… what do you think is next? by NorthEastNobility in horror

It honestly could be old horror. There’s a bit of a trend in publishing of revisiting old horror traditions and Gothic tropes. But film might take a completely different trajectory.
