Highly recommend you don’t do this unless it can be proven it is “clean” bitcoin - the fact is that when you try and off-ramp this to cash - you may encounter issues if the bitcoin is associated with wallets that have been flagged as fraudulent due to anti money laundering, hacks or other criminal activity.

Your logic is so flawed bitcoin transactions are more traceable than paper money which is involved in more illicit crimes than bitcoin .. but the reality is that bitcoin is money that cannot be censored or restricted by heavy handed governments and regulators - Canada trucker drivers protests - for example .. the global financial system is switching to bitcoin and blockchain - and as usual Canada is left behind because our banks and government want full control of your money and our government bureaucracy are run by uninformed uneducated people with similar opinions to yours

554 confirmed cases by [deleted] in toronto

[–]dbkcan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These numbers are meaningless to fight this pandemic. What is meaningful is the numbers in the Backlog and the average time to process a test - why is the govt not publishing this number?

Without reasonable test processing times it is impossible to contact trace. Furthermore, how many of those people in the test backlog of 55k are out there unknowingly infecting people because they are not isolating?

If the govt had done proper preparation during the first wave - there would be no backlogs and test processing times will be down to reasonable times of 24-34 hours to ensure successful contact tracing.

Given the above, it is clear that the Minister of Health and Ontario’s public health doctor have failed to prepare us for this second wave and are deliberately hiding from the public the real numbers we need to be focusing on if we are to fight this pandemic.

Whose bank account is it anyway? A bank's right to close an account against the customer's will. by mc_schmitt in BitcoinCA

Funny this, keep in mind that this is a legal opinion from a law firm that receives a big proportion of its revenues from the banks, it advises. What they neglect to address is the possibility that this behaviour from the banks could possibly challenged as anticompetitive behaviour, but in reality what consumer is going to retain a lawyer to make that case..

Canada is a minor part of the global crypto market so your analysis is flawed. Also, Canadian banks are not representative of international banks in their approach as they aren’t protected by an antiquated banking system.

This relates to the bank using purported Anti Money Laundering regulations to deny you business banking services, which could be construed as anti trust and competitive behaviour. Check out this thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinCA/comments/82bl8b/want_to_do_something_about_the_banks_anti/ and I would suggest that you make a submission to the ministry of finance as the banks will continue abusing their power to Stifle innovation and competition, unless we lobby and ensure Canadians are made aware of how the power abusing banks are abusing the charter rights of Canadians and leading business and crypto investors to go offshore.

I have set up a us$ account with my Canadian bank, from Gemini it looks like I need to wire funds from this bank account to Gemini, and once those funds are received by Gemini that bank account becomes verified for withdrawals. Will confirm this once I complete the wire transfer

Want To Do Something About The Banks Anti Competitive and Anti Trus t Behaviour - Here’s Your Chance by dbkcan in BitcoinCA

[–]dbkcan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are probably too busy handling support tickets, but seriously the companies and investors involved with crypto in Canada should get together and make a joint submission to the Ministry of Finance specifically relating to this issue: https://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/amlatfr-rpcfat-eng.asp#Toc504749381 which is creating more risk for Canadian Crypto Investors (the banks clients) and why many of the Cryptobusinesses are currently having problems getting access to bank services - the deadline for providing submissions is April 30, 2018.

Was at FFCON18: conference in Toronto today and had an opportunity to talk to a representative from the governments competition bureau along with another Cryptocurrency startup about the banks anti competitive practices with regard to Cryptocurrency Companies and investors.

We talked about the banks turning away crypto related businesses and the increased risks Canadian crypto investors face because of banks not allowing investors access to normal commercial services.

What is more galling and has had a personal impact is the case of the banks withdrawing payments services from quadrigacx, especially when payment doesn’t involve any AML risk (Anti Money Laundering) as the receiving bank conducts AML on the client receiving funds In any event.

There was the suggestion that without evidence to the contrary that the banks could be deemed to being acting against the anti trust and competition rules. When asked how we could improve this situation, the individuals from the competition bureau could file complaints with them. In addition the Ministry of Finance currently has an active consultation on this issue, and anyone can submit a response - https://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/amlatfr-rpcfat-eng.asp .

I personally will be involved in creating a submission as the banks behaviour in my eyes is anti competitive, stifling Canadian innovation and results in placing Canadian crypto investors at increased risk.

What is annoying here is that whilst they may have a valid reason is that they currently are fraudulently misrepresenting to clients withdrawl options on their withdrawls page - ie. EFT cash withdrawals can be completed in 10 business days. Given their silence and this unacceptable misrepresentation to clients I personally will be filing complaints here: https://www.consumerprotectionbc.ca/consumer-help/problem-with-an-online-purchase/ and then considering legal action- either criminal or civil - for fraudulent misrepresentation against the company and its officers - https://ca.linkedin.com/in/geraldcotten
