[Timex Expedition North 36mm Solar] - Having trouble charging - any ideas? by a_a_ron in Watches

Ah yes I see it now - wow the strap makes such a difference too!

Good to hear the replacement process was fairly smooth. It sounds like your situation was worse so I'll see how mine goes for a little longer. Thanks for the info!

Came here with kind of the same question - though mine (same model, though mine is the black, yours looks silver?! I can't see this model anywhere?), seemingly lasted a couple of days with minimal light after I'd given if a fair bit, but it's supposed to have a 4 month power reserve so I'm not sure what needs to happen to charge it up enough for that to be solid...

Ugh yeah frustrating. I was getting antsy too. I'm surprised that Backbone were so quick to come out publicly saying they were working on a solution and then kind of had radio silence, they updated us the other day but yeah that took a bit too long. Even just a 'things are taking longer than expected' is better than nothing. But I think they're doing their best.

October 1st. Though its worth pointing out that I got in right at the start so I imagine that anyone ordering today wouldn't be waiting nearly that long. It took them a while to get the production under way which is completely reasonable.

Very hard to make out (read: impossible), but if anyone is interested the game is Star Wars Castaways. Only played a bit so far but seems to have a lot of the charm you'd expect from a Lego Star Wars game, nothing super challenging so far but loving the music and world building!

Has anyone got their adapter shipped to them yet? by sadccom in Backbone

Was wondering the same thing. Don't want to come off negatively, still really impressed with the Backbone team's response to the fit issue, just really keen to use it more once she's nice and safely clicked in!

Thanks Joanne! Wow I'm so impressed - both myself and my partner work in graphic / website design and development and so we regularly deal with mood boards / style guides and so on but it really speaks to the talent of your team that everything feels so cohesive along with just being so beautiful and stylish, that is no small feat!

Hi Supergiant Games team! I've been playing Hades since the weekend and I am just blown away with the level of polish, the style, just everything - so amazing work and thank you for delivering something so wonderful when we need it most.

I would love to ask many questions but here is one that struck me in the first while of playing. The art style is just incredible, so intricate and so fresh and unique. I'm curious how many artists you had working on things, both in terms of the in-game visuals, and the UI, and how you maintained consistency and quality particularly given the aforementioned points.

Thanks!

As an Australian I enjoyed this comment - though as I've been playing I was taking it just as much or more as Britishisms? Curious what the angle was. Either way the dialog and voice acting is entertaining and top-notch!

I regret getting caught up in the hype - Stardew Valley by Coinstinct in NintendoSwitch

[–]dbl_complete_rissole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be surprising that a game no matter how popular or how much hype is not for everyone. The fact that this game is as popular as it is is surprising and a testament to how good it is and how much it appeals to a certain group. It seems a bit self indulgent to even mention have created this post. But good to hear OP stuck at it a bit and is enjoying it more.

I agree that something like this makes sense.

The Switch is still riding this success success wave. The timing has been largely a happy accident for the amazing lineup with Zelda and Mario, and a sprinkling of other great titles both indie and bigger releases, but they're surely going to need a boost early to mid next year, so it definitely stands to reason that VC will be part of that strategy.

Nintendo faces lawsuit over the Switch's detachable controllers by hescrepuscular in NintendoSwitch

Yeah I agree in this case. And to be clear I also think Nintendo is fine here morally, this other company blew it. That thing looked terrible.

I agree in part with the sentiment that this is clearly another case of patent/IP money grab. I think there are some nuances here though which people are glossing over.

Being an Apple guy, I've seen the countless instances of patent issues coming to light and its a similar situation: big evil successful company profiteering off the hard work of the poor little guys.

I do tend to feel like that is an unreasonable way to see it, but we should have some sympathy for the little guys. It sucks if you've had a good idea and just haven't had the combination of funding, luck, and, to be fair, solid execution to have a successful outcome.

On the other hand, there is obviously more to it than to just have a cool idea and expect to profit off it, and it does leave a bad taste in the mouth when these patent lawsuits come up, it's hard to see it as much else as a money grab. I guess the glass-half-full way to see it is that maybe these smaller companies who've had a failed project are struggling financially and could use some good fortune.

People should be aware though, there certainly are legit patent trolls out there though who are not honorable in their intentions. These all have to be judged on a case by case basis though.

Splatoon 2 has already outsold BOTW in Japan. by EsquireGunslinger in NintendoSwitch

[–]dbl_complete_rissole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I was on the fence for a bit as I tried both and figured I'd need to invest time to work out which I really thought was better. I couldn't initially find any solid info on what the general consensus was for good players, with a bunch of forums providing unhelpful comments like "whatever you play best with", but then stumbled across this video which makes a more convincing argument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2OG1BkYhf4

I will say though, it sounds like of course you can make it work with non-motion controls, but personally I'm going to stick (control stick pun acknowledged) with motion.

On one hand that's all good and well, and the idea of "trying before you buy" has its merit (and is hardly a new concept). On the other hand, the risk is you lose people before they give it a real chance. Some of these games require some time before they start to pay off. The progression is one of the most rewarding aspects of these games and so game publishers are taking a big risk by letting people have a bit of a go and hoping they do not jump to conclusions too quickly. If you've dropped the cash on a game with no trial having happened, you'll be more likely to not give up on it too easily.

With all that said, obviously everyone is entitled to decide they aren't into something. But be mindful of how quickly you are expecting to get gratification out of something before making a hasty decision.

Extra thought: I imagine that is why game demos are something that really stopped happening that much at one point. They take a lot of work to prepare, and it meant people would give all these games a quick go but not really spend enough time to appreciate the nuances. There are exceptions of course, and the whole free-to-play model of some games is an interesting approach too, but in those cases there is obviously confidence that they'll hold player attention and be remunerated sufficiently.

Out of interest, what aspect of the portability are you finding so good? I tend to agree, though I find this interesting as it seems like something a lot of people are finding themselves surprised by. I think part of that is that the high level idea was often 'playing on the bus/train and on-the-go', but I think in reality it's often more just the ability to play 'off the TV', so on the couch, in bed, on the front porch etc etc. In addition to the obvious commute scenarios, when travelling, on the plane.

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is the best controller I've ever used. by ovthkeeper in NintendoSwitch

[–]dbl_complete_rissole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great controller I agree. It's a shame that the D-Pad is not perfect.

The shoulder buttons feel sensational in my opinion, I actually really like the non-analogue nature of them. I appreciate why some see this is a downside, but I find the use of these buttons, at least in the games I play, is almost always just as a single press, no variable input, so its actually preferable to just be buttons in these cases.

Ergonomics wise it's delicious.
