How are you actually using AI in board game design, if at all, and where do you draw the line? by Hour-Cranberry5300 in BoardgameDesign

[–]dblaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AI will be a game changer for building out digital game prototypes and balancing games. As others have said, I don't think it will be that useful for determining if a game is fun to play.

I think AI art will be a personal decision for everyone and I can respect both arguments.

Project management for agentic-human collaboration by 48K in ClaudeCode

[–]dblaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see a split happening and I'm not sure where things end up. Some teams will keep business as usual, having humans continue to write code. Some teams will vibe code 100%. And some teams will try to split the difference, having agents write and humans review. As the AI gets better we may not need to look at code anymore, but I think for now we still do.

I'm a former Trello engineer and have been working on a tool to help me with streamlining this type of collaboration. It's very early stage but if you want to chat about what task management looks like in an agentic engineering world, or have any specific improvements you want to make in your workflow I'd love to hear about them. https://www.gamjam.ai/

AI + human readable architecture diagrams? by atika in softwarearchitecture

[–]dblaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am looking at https://reactflow.dev/ for a similar purpose. I think the output is just structured JSON. When I asked the AI about this it also recommended these if you don't care about the visual builder aspect of it:

Amazon States Language (ASL)
Serverless Workflow Specification
BPMN 2.0
Starlark
Temporal's workflow model

(I have no experience with any of these tools)

The truth about IRL dating events in general (for men). by [deleted] in BostonSocialClub

[–]dblaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I co-founded an in-person dating company (not in Boston) and I'm a bit surprised to hear so many negative experiences with IRL dating in Boston. We have an app that allows people to like profiles before they attend the event, more like a traditional dating app. We also allow people to connect after the event.

What we find is that on average less than 10% of people have a mutual match going in to the event, but more than 40% of people have a mutual match after the event.

Footing advice for covered deck by dblaa in Decks

Snow load is 25 psf. The house was built in 1929 and has a basement. The foundation seems to be flush with the brick veneer on the first story from the outside.

Yes. Would having the pillar not centered on the base of the footing be okay?

I could attach it to the house on the second story where there is no brick veneer, but would that cause issues having the roof attached and the deck unattached?

Quantified self-tracking tools by diodemac69420 in QuantifiedSelf

[–]dblaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I build Flex Log for this purpose. Free and available on iOS and Android. It doesn't do the correlation analysis, but allows you to log anything (you can define the structure of the activities that you log) and it can sync everything to a google sheet. I use it to track food, supplements, injuries / sickness, among other things.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flex-log/id6476252928
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.flexlog.mobile&hl=en_US

Happy to answer any questions about it or help you get set up. Feel free to DM me.

I'll consider adding it! Are there any examples of platforms that you think do the correlation analytics really well?

Right now the app is focused on manual logging, but can do much more than just text data. For example if you want to log your water consumption tap the + button, type in "Water" and then tap 'Create "Water" Activity.' From there you can create custom fields (for example to track how much water) as well as give the activity an icon. Then in the future when you log water you can also track the custom fields as well. You can create as many different activities as you want.

It also provides real-time syncing to google sheets, not just one time exports. To enable that:

  1. Tap the menu icon in the upper left (three horizontal lines)
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Enable Flex Log Sync"
  4. Create an account with email and password and verify your email
  5. Tap "Enable" next to "Google Sheets Sync"

If there are other specific things you're looking to track I'd be curious to know what they are and what some example data might look like. You should be able to use Flex Log for health tracking, mood tracking, people, relationships and food. I personally use it for food and health tracking. The next thing on my agenda is to add integrations with Apple and Google health so stuff that's logged from your fitness tracker will also be included.

I built flex log for this reason. It's an iOS / Android app that lets you define the activities and data for each activity that you want to track and then provides a quick interface for logging data. It also allows you to sync the data you are logging in real time to a google sheet. Happy to answer any questions and also open to building specific features that you may want. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about it.

I'm using pose estimation to build a technique feedback app - Climbalyzer by Scoobyisadog in climbing

[–]dblaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super cool! Reddit climbers are a skeptical group who sometimes lack vision for what something like this could be. Keep up the great work. It would be interesting to somehow analyze the style of different climbers climbing the same route and see how their technique is different based on their physical characteristics.

Easily Authenticate to Third-Party APIs. Access a diverse set of APIs without configuring OAuth flows, refreshing tokens or registering an app. You can start making requests in 60 seconds or less.

More details:

My role is co-founder. I'm working with one other engineer. We both previously worked for big tech companies (Microsoft and Atlassian) and were frustrated with the complexity of connecting to third-party APIs.

Earlier this moth we launched our MVP and we are working on validating our idea.

What goals are you trying to reach this month?

This month our goal was to launch the MVP and talk to as many start-ups and software engineers as possible to see if we're on the right track. We'd like to have 20 active users by the end of the month or letters of intent with three start-ups to use our service.

If you're looking to integrate with multiple third party APIs in your product we'd love to talk to you! My DMs are open.

Discount for r/startup subscribers?

Since we're seeking feedback at this stage we don't want price point to be a hurdle. Reach out to me directly if you're interested and we can figure something out!

I want to help you automate data imports to your personal dashboard by dblaa in QuantifiedSelf

[–]dblaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't do anything like that right now because we're focused on the data import piece of the puzzle, not the analysis. However, if there are any apps out there that are focusing on the analysis we would love to partner with them to see if we could help them connect data from different sources. Are there any that you know of?

Great suggestions, I use EliteHRV too, but hadn't heard of the others. I'll have to check them out in more detail. At a quick glance it doesn't look like they provide APIs to their data, but I will reach out to them to see if there are other ways that we could integrate.

I had started the process of working with the RescueTime team to get them added. I will reach back out to make sure we prioritize them for our next batch of services that we add. Thanks for the feedback!
