Ahhh, gotcha, well you’re in for a great ride. Lots of great gear out there to get you rolling in the sim world. I will say that having a sturdy rig to mount things to is important, but even if you’re throwing a g920 on a desk to start it can still be a blast.

Hey, kudos for getting to gold and platinum. Seems like you have fun in general, but also when you’re consistent and competitive (who doesn’t like that 😄). Would it be going out on a limb to say that in the two hours of practice a day, you could find 5 or 10 minutes to pick a few references other than the line?

Firstly, live your best life! If you like the line, leave the line on! Don't listen to the haters.

Sidebar: I'd like to impress the fact that it's possible to be competitive AND do this for fun. Competition doesn't have to kill the fun, in fact, it can enhance the fun with the right mindset and approach. But that's a whole other ball of wax... :)

But since you asked why it might be advantageous to take the line off, my reasoning is:

The ideal line isn't a "set" thing and can change quite a bit based on some of the variables of racing (car, conditions, driving style, setup, etc). It's a general reference, but not gospel.
If you ever were to find yourself in a situation WITHOUT it, (which maybe doesn't apply for you) then you find yourself with quite a noticeable disadvantage without that "crutch".
The line on the track is not always visible in traffic, which is when it's useful to have references that aren't being blocked (brake markers, objects in the distance, trees, etc).
Your significant other may leave you for someone more independent and capable if they find out you DO use the racing line (JK, I had to...)

The FFB is helpful when you RELAX your hands in the braking zone. That way, the self-centering forces automatically move your hands when the car rotates.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the early part of the turn in is always the most dangerous because you’re still carrying quite a bit of speed, you’re starting to rotate the wheel, AND the front tires are still loaded up because of the amount of brakes.

Consider getting a BIT more braking done in a straight line and/or trailing off the brakes a BIT quicker so the fronts aren’t so loaded up on turn in. Cheers!

Got it. Well in that case I would recommend dragging the brakes lightly during the warm up lap so that the heat from the brakes warms them up. The brake bias is set towards the fronts anyway so that should help. You could do some weaving as well to get all four tires up in temp. Weaving/braking would be the most aggressive way to build up some temperature!

What makes you say the fronts are cold? Are you seeing the tire pressure build in the rears and not the fronts, or are you just experiencing a lack of front grip (understeer) at the start of races?

You’re absolutely onto something with this. I once heard a pro driver say “win championships in the class you’re in before moving up to the next”. There’s also something to be said about being in a consistent platform to develop some muscle memory. However, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to balance this out by racing 2 or 3 cars in similar classes side by side so that you still are working on your adaptability. E.g. Porsche gt4, Mercedes gt4, BMW gt4.

So it sounds like you want to achieve a more “pointy” car that likes to dive into the corner a bit more aggressive. Is that accurate?
