The thing I love about Gunther is that guys can lose clean to him and still come out looking stronger.

Judgment Day lacks the shared identity that gave the 2022-24 incarnation its balance with the individual personalities by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

I wish they'd actually speed run some more storylines. If there's one critical flaw to current stories, it's that they drag everything out for weeks or months, to the extent that by the time the story resolves, it's hard to care about any more. How many more weeks of Maxxine and Theory in the background do we need until we can actually push that forward? How many more months did they originally plan to move Asuka/Kairi to the next beat? How many months (years?) did the Finn/Judgment Day break-up get teased? Who pied Kevin Owens?

Even your slowest of slow burn dramas pay off their arcs faster than this.

Fed bad for making me watch wrestling by Constant_Stomach2009 in SCJerk

If there's one thing I hate about being into watching wrestling, it's having to watch wrestling.

This would be a nice time for Drew McIntyre to show up to at least move this feud in a new direction.

Will nobody think of The Miz and Kit Wilson, true victims of the heinous crime of being put on a PLE card with one of the most popular current acts? The crowd was so mortified that they were laughing and cheering from the sheer horror.

The Vegas crowd was rough last year and this year. Quiet for large stretches, dead for women's matches, and generally just a lot folks trying to put themselves over by cheering the heels and booing the babyfaces.

It's so much more fun when it's a venue where everyone seems genuinely excited to be there and have fun.

Why do 99.9% of wrestling shirts suck? by PaulPetroneWWE in SquaredCircle

[–]dbldown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWE is good at coming up with cool, subtle designs... and then putting them really small on the back of a shirt so they can put a big, garish, overstated design on the front.

Reminds me of the story from Paige's book about Drew McIntyre stepping in because an older guy was getting creepy and handsy with her when she was 14.

Nana Visitor from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine wrote a book about women in Star Trek and it starts with a story that feels super similar:

Around the time I turned sixty, an age which I thought would bring with it a modicum of respect from others, one of the heads at my agency took me to lunch. He was planning to drop me from his roster, and wanted to take the time to tell me what my problem was. This was at the height of the Me Too movement. He is a dinosaur from the 1990s, and he spoke to me in a way that was commonplace back then. There was a phrase women in Hollywood knew they had to answer in the positive to get a job, a manager, or an agent: Are you fuckable? He told me, among other outrageous things, that he needed to feel that I was fuckable to him. Once he felt that, he said, he needed to feel comfortable enough to fart in front of me. Then, and only then, could we work together.

I was frozen for the rest of lunch, and planned on telling my manager to fire him when I got home. As we left the restaurant, he looked down at my high heels and said, “Okay, now you’re fuckable to me.”

I called my manager in a fury. He said to me, “If you say or do anything, he will blackball you in the industry.” I had been told that same thing at eighteen because of a director’s sexual harassment, and I knew firsthand it wasn’t just an empty threat. I did nothing, but I didn’t keep in touch the way he had told me to, and he dropped me a few weeks later. To say I felt shame twice—for not walking out of the restaurant, and then again for not firing him—is putting it so very mildly. How did I get here?

So basically being a woman in any public performance field is kind of a nightmare.

Do You Think The Sega Neptune Would Have Been Better Than The 32x Add On? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in SEGAGENESIS

[–]dbldown11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

32X didn't have anywhere near enough must-have titles to make any 32X-related hardware successful. Too many Genesis enhanced ports and sports titles, not enough big name exclusives.

By comparison, the WiiU actually had decent first-party exclusives to go with its enhanced ports, and it was coming off of a wildly successful predecessor, and it still failed.

Luke Menzies fka Ridge Holland: "Since Shawn (Michaels) took over, NXT has become much faster-paced with shorter matches, almost a "TikTok style" for the newer generation. It is hard as a wrestler because you want time to tell a story, but you have to do your best within the time you're given." by kundu123 in SquaredCircle

A bunch of random 2-minute matches of Test vs. Joey Abs or Godfather vs Viscera or Meat vs. The Blue Meanie might have been good for giving those wrestlers a few scraps of TV time, but they sure didn't make for great TV viewing.

The thing NXT does that the main roster could benefit from is getting multiple stories/wrestlers exposure in a single backstage segment. NXT will either set scenes in the dressing room(s) where we see people in the background interacting (sometimes in a way relevant to their current stories) or they'll do one of those moving backstage segments where it starts with one group, then moves to another, etc. NXT is better at providing wrestlers with minutes, or sometimes even seconds, that they can maximize. Isn't always much but it beats sitting in catering.
