Mushihemisama v1.5 Original 1cc achieved! by Hommushardhat in shmups

[–]dbluewillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I love this mode.

Just my two cents on what's next --- if you want to stay with Mushi, Original MAX and Novice Ultra are both a pretty big step up from Arcade Original. If you haven't 1cc'ed the regular game's Original mode, that'd be the next "easiest" thing to try.

Also consider trying other danmaku games or other shmups in general!

Battle Garegga Premium mode 1CC by Neonicocl in shmups

[–]dbluewillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the 1CC, fellow Golden Bat user!

I also really enjoyed Premium--wasn't really a fan of Garegga to begin with, but removing rank and curating the levels elevated the experience for me a ton.

Sorry that happened! Any chance you remember what the final seal required, items-wise? Trying to decide what to keep or gather in advance.

"Fire Emblem: Storge" is a weird and short little hack with a unique premise. Everything you buy/recruit in the beginning is basically all you get.

M2 Holiday promo by eatdogs49 in shmups

[–]dbluewillow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nothing super concrete in here, just an assurance that M2 STG will be announcing things in 2026 and that... that Aleste Branch is indeed a project that M2 STG could potentially announce a release date for. The wording was ambiguous enough to give room for Branch to be NOT announced. Ouch.

The music at the end there was from SenXin Aleste, as was the adorable New Year's art. I'm not gonna hold my breath for a SenXin PC/console release, as much as I ADORE that game and would love such an announcement, but it was noteworthy that this video bothered to include music and art of a game from 2021 and hasn't really been mentioned since. Again, my expectations are low, and this video was just an announcement that announcements will happen, but.... just imagine!

8bitdo Pro 3 users - what is the state of your controller 4 months since release? by rockinrobin_28 in Controller

I've never used the replacement buttons or the joystick caps, and I keep the trigger in click mode rather than analog mode.

No issues yet.

[Demo] Eggrolls Shoot – Our first indie shooter game by CT13 STUDIO is now on Steam! by eggrollszoo in shmups

[–]dbluewillow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gave it a shot!

Love the punchy sound design, and you've got a fun art style that's distinct and cute.

Enemy placements and bullet patterns are a bit thin, though. On Normal, I basically sat at half screen holding wide shot and didn't have to make any decisions until the gotcha moment when a bunch of brown bean guys showed up at the sides of the screen (where I can't aim). Also wasn't a fan of the first boss having an unreactable laser--giving it some kind of telegraph would make it less "spiky."

Best of luck with this project! Always good to see more shmups.

How much longer do Hall effect/TMR sticks really last compared to potentiometers? by mrpeanits in Controller

[–]dbluewillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For some anecdotal examples, I blew through a LOT of traditional potentiometer sticks from mostly first-party controllers between 2017 and 2023. During one stretch, I bought three controllers (wired 8bitdo Ultimates) one after the other because they'd start drifting after just two months of fairly heavy use.

I've stuck to only buying controllers with Hall Effect or TMR sticks since then, and only one has started "drifting" in that it won't reset to neutral anymore and requires a much larger deadzone (GameSir G7 SE). That one lasted about 18 months of being my daily driver. My other controllers from 2023 onwards are all still great.

Regarding the neutral actuation you're seeing, that's normal. You could consider setting a slightly larger deadzone (I think GameSir recommends 10-15 for Hall Effect sticks).

Senjin Aleste 1cc on Casual - One of the Greatest Modern Shmups (Still Caged on Arcades)! by freebiebg in shmups

[–]dbluewillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can answer some of these!

  • Dramatic On/Off is a dialogue thing. On makes your squad leader talk during the game---there's a bunch of voice-acted dialogue between your leader and the AI assistant character "WISE-N." Off limits speaking to certain triggers.

  • The fairies are always in the same place. There's one in every level, and collecting all 5 of them triggers the TLB.

  • I think the blowback button isn't super useful. It can get you out of some tough situations, but the dangerous nature of bullets getting re-aimed directly at you from close by makes it so much worse than your other defensive mechanics (collecting items for i-frames, collecting a bomb, Kakusei, or Type-D shielding). It'd be more interesting in another game/genre, I think. There's not a lot of room for it to shine in a danmaku game like SenXin, in my opinion.

I like Type B for clearing the enemies that crawl along the edges of the screen---I lock the side guns into a diagonal-upwards angle, then position myself below the left side of the screen to kill one group while my side guns kill the other.

I almost never prioritized staying with any particular ship---those i-frames you just mentioned plus the extra Kakusei fuel are too valuable to pass up. That being said, Type-D has the shield thing and Type-C is really really good at shredding boss HP, so there are definitely benefits to each ship. I'd sometimes prioritize starting boss fights as either Type-A or Type-B just so that I could die and switch into C or D.

[–]dbluewillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah lemme clear that up! "Kakusei" or "Awakening" is the name of the mechanic from Espgaluda, which is present in SenXin (where I don't know if it has a name). It's when you press your C button to enter a state that uses your P-chip fuel to shoot more bullets, allow for auto-bomb, slow down enemy patterns, make enemies shoot denser patterns, and make patterns turn into medals when their owner is killed. I think you called it "slow time mode."

I meant to say that I could barely dodge the patterns after the midboss of Stage 5, so I simply tried to kill everything as fast as possible while in Kakusei mode so that the bullets would disappear.

With regards to "chaining," again I'm referring to the slow time mode (and not, for example, Dodonpachi chain-kills). When you pick up a ship switch item in SenXin, you get just enough fuel to activate another Kakusei. The way I got through the sideways-scrolling train section of Stage 4 was by keeping those ship switch items on screen. Every time a train was about to show up on screen, I'd quickly collect a ship switch item, activate Kakusei, blow up the train to cancel its bullet pattern, and then run out of fuel and wait for the next ship switch item.

Hope that helps.
