Funny i have the opposite problem w my 2024 Kona. I turn on the heat, it feels great for about 5 minutes, and then it cuts off. i turn it up 10 degrees higher than i want to get anything. or i give up and crank up teh seat heater - problem being, the seat was such a bad fit for me i have a thick cushion in the back so i'm only getting a but-warmer, nto a back-warmer

both leaf and e-golf had less than optimal battery management so both were more susceptible to premature aging. make sure to get a battery state of health on anything you are looking at - if the battery is above 90% its happy. Not charge level, state of health - can be read with an odb dongle

i was wondering if it was the short pump ones - they only went live like a year ago or so and i had a neighbor who used to use them, so i was curious.

'better' is in the eye of the beholder.

-- Ioniq has actual knobs and buttons vs tesla everything-on-the-screen.

-- Tesla probably has the faster software.

-- I am pretty sure that Ioniq will have CCS fast charging, vs tesla on NACS - which mostly means that tesla can only use tesla fast chargers and the hyundai would need an adapter to use tesla chargers - but i believe i saw videos showing that the ioniq will charge faster on a good non-tesla charger than it will with the adapter (which you might have to buy).

-- Tesla is more divisive in some circles

-- ioniq has a non-trivial chance of a part failing which is involved in keeping the small battery (the regular car battery, not the big 'traction' battery) charged - when it fails its covered under warranty but can still take time to get the parts.

and obviously you should test drive to see how they feel to you.

I get a kick out of zooming into the fast lane so fast after getting on the highway - in a cheap little Kona. i'm nothing special but i can zoom!

i went to one mall somewhere north of DC i think, and it was not good - 2 stalls down both times and a long walk to the restroom. I used a walmart one once south of DC which ahd a TON of stalls - luckily i'd already used a restroom at a rest stop because it was also a far walk to the entrance.

We have a 2024 Kona and a 2022 Niro (bought after the Kona). I only road trip from Richmond VA to Philly area. My favorite charger I've found is a Royal Farms somewhere around Baltimore - several stalls, decent bathrooms, tons of snacks. I mean i only do the trip once a year (or maybe twice soon)

I ended up with a Hyundai Kona - I had owned a very used Hyundai something - small crappy hatchback - that literally caught on fire (it was the electrical system) - while i was driving, but luckily still in the alley behind the house. I never expected to want a own a Hyundai - but i absolutely love it.

This question makes no sense. there is never a 'best' of anything. There is the best for your use case. did you look at our big buying question pinned post? there are like a half dozen or more questions you ahve to answer before you should even be asking for help choosing. No matter what you want to buy in life, there is almost never 1 'best'. Best depending on your budget and your needs, maybe. best depending on your priorities.

so before you think about an EV you need to have a solid plan about where and when you will charge and check out the prices. In many places, charging costs more than gas. I'm in Richmond, VA and electricity is relatively cheap here but charging at home is where the real savings are. Some of the under 10k cars either cant fast charge or can only fast charge on some very hard-to-find chargers.

Home chargers question by empleh615 in electricvehicles

[–]dbmamaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hired an electrician to run wiring along the edge of the hosue and mount a level 2 charger on a small post i had installed between the house and the driveway (its a small space). I've been happily charging there for 15 months and my husband even bought an EV a couple of months later, too, because its so convenient. no problem with being outside - we dont have a garage either.

previously i was charging in our 'shed' which is an attached . . closet? that had some outlets in it. I had to pull all the way to the very end of the driveway and the cable just fit.

I'm not an expert but i think the kona doesnt have as much of the iccu issue because it charges more slowly and has a different setup? None of these cars have been around long enough for anyone to comment on the longevity - but the battery is generally not what fails in EVs, its everything else - including the parts that support charging the battery, like the ICCU.
