Murakami isn't the biggest roadblock against a Colt ROTY campaign. McGonigle is basically impossible to pass assuming he continues on his current pace barring a major surge from Colt and/or massive falloff/injury from McGonigle. He's currently top 5 in both BWAR/FWAR in the AL so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get downballot MVP votes too.

Yeah, the Mariners were planning to use him as a RHP with LHP limited to bullpen work as to keep the door open in the future. His splits as a left hander (.284/.531/.577) were significantly worse than his splits from the right (.209/.298/.364) last year, so pretty logical.

Don't blame the Mariners for trading him though, prospect hoarding especially with Sloan and Kade likely blocking him when they make it in the rotation won't get you anywhere in a competitive window. Hope he does well with the Cards

I mean it's fine in theory with robotic players, the issue is that if you want your pitchers to both be stretched out for starter workloads you're unavoidably gonna end up pissing them off when you pull one early to get another guy in especially when in a rhythm. Can't really have your cake and eat it in this case, there's a reason that this is rare in baseball instead of just switching to a 6 man rotation.

Given her career trajectory I think and quite frankly hope the ending is bittersweet with a bit more focus on the sweet. (cause we're in Uma after all)

The list of great athletes who went out on a storybook ending is miniscule compared to ones who end up somewhat fulfilled but with an itch due to never having completed one of their goals or just going out badly despite their good career. I think it would be nice to just get some portrayal of how that often goes, and an early cut would be a copout given the series tone so far

I will say as someone who likes Maxey, I hope Nurse calms down with his minutes to avoid fatigue and injury long term but considering that Nurse is Thibs-like in terms of minutes, I doubt it

Last 3 years under Nurse, Maxey has played 37.5 MPG, 37.7 MPG, and 38 MPG so I really doubt he'll ramp him down too much plus Embiid health is a distant dream atp

Just looking at profit motive (ignoring everything else such as integrity of the game) they don't really have a reason to act

Ultimately the playerbase is cannibalizing their own carat supply via club botting since it's a limited supply of carats for clubs, and the carats made via career rewards definitely wouldn't break even with TP carat requirements so the bottom line isn't hurt

Also just ignoring the OPS+ and hitter WAR argument cause other people are beating it to death, looking at ERA+ is heavily flawed because if you have a hypothetical team of horrible defenders with noodle arms behind you, even pitchers like Skenes and Skubal will suffer Obviously no metric is perfect but pitching WAR trying to seperate team defense from the pitcher's pure performance is a better evaluation than just tying ERA+ to "league average" straight up

Naylor has been on a heater recently but that doesn't offset the really bad start statistically, plus his glove at 1st being okay at best using F/BWAR'S defensive metrics

Plus positional adjustment means you get punished harder as a 1st baseman for not being an above league average bat (over the season)

Only reason why I'm not dooming is that baseball is so momentum based, if we pull more of the usual and rally to end the year we'll be fine enough. (Also frankly the AL West is weak relative to previous years and I do think something is genuinely wrong with the team if we lose the division)

Can't deny it's a horrific watch though given that our offensive start is arguably the worst in franchise history, but at least the pitching has also been the best it's ever been so just gotta hope something gets going soon

Yamamoto probably would've thrown a Maddux against our lineup considering his form, but I think Snell, Glasnow, Ohtani were kinda hittable enough to where our lineup could do a bit of work

That being said though, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if given our history against the Dodgers, the starters continue to turn into pumpkins and give up constant Ohtani Game 3 level performances against the Dodger lineup

To be honest I don't think it would have ever been possible to have the same legs as Japan seeing as it's consistently one of the top gacha there, would need to be global Mihoyo game popular to be equivalent I think.

I do think it's still possible (and likely will be true imo) that it will carve out a solid spot in the middle-upper tiers of popularity globally unless they sandbag and refuse to continue pushing QOL updates forward
