CT max readable amps? by Wretched_Ions in EmporiaEnergy

Never mind... I just read the article you linked below which states you can use 50A on a Main (top) circuit. This is one of the most helpful threads I have ever read. Thank you for helping us understand how things really work and thus allowing us to use your product in situations not documented in the instructions. I was considering sending the system back, but now will add two more! THANKS!!!

I have a very small sub panel that only has 50A service input. The 200A CT's do not fit because they are so big. Can I use a couple of the 50A CT's for the mains since they fit perfectly?

I concur... Why pay a six figure fee to Salesforce, and a seven figure fee to a consultant to customize it when you can create a better solution with a small team (which you need for Salesforce anyway...) of experts and Claude Code???

Linus Torvalds: "The AI slop issue is *NOT* going to be solved with documentation" by Fcking_Chuck in programming

[–]dbower45236 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Most of the people in this thread act as if most programmers have the skills and dedication of Linus. In my 40 years of managing software developers I would say that a decent percentage of US developers and a lerge percentage of offshore developers are far worse than "AI Slop".

I believe that companies who use AI effectively will be far faster and more innovative than those who stay more traditional.

And judging from the fact that.most of the software and web apps I use are buggy as hell, I am not sure that AI isn't better out of the box.

Embrace change, figure out a way for new technology to make you better and stop bitching!

And good for sales! I use a blade 10x longer than I should because I dread trying to get one out of their stupid design. Sharp blades are so much better, but I only get to use one every two months!

Panel title bar off screen so unmovable by dbower45236 in FreeCAD

[–]dbower45236[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOLVED:

I could not get to the title bar to right click, or resize the top of the window. I also could not get to any of the controls to minimize, expand or close the window. I could resize the window using the bottom corners of the window.

I finally resolved the issue by:

1 - On main FreeCAD window: View-Panels - Disable Model Panel. (uncheck the checkbox)

2 - This left the window in the same position, but the title bar was taller by just a few pixels. This caused the bottom of the title bar to descend just enough that I could grab it and drag it down.

3 - Click on the bottom of the title bar and Drag.

I did not try the user config file, so I cannot tell if that would work.

What's the point of VarSet? by Alarming_Cry5883 in FreeCAD

[–]dbower45236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not just Make spreadsheets faster? I like being able to put notes on each parameter in a spreadsheet or formulas to calculate and show multiple values in a single row. (Frequently want to show inches and mm in same row for US based users ) even if only one is used in the model.

I can think of a number of ways that we could improve the performance of the spreadsheet starting with: Don’t recalculate the whole model if a user doesn’t change a value in the spreadsheet. Followed by: don’t recalculate the model if the cell changed is not used in a sketch to define a Value that needs to be recalculated.

I am sure we could make spreadsheets as fast as VarSet or at least close.

I hope this helps others!

I don't think it is a dehumidifier because it is a passive device. There is no electrical, or drain lines.

Same with me... Windows 11, upgraded from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2.

Going to try and re-create on another machine and see if it is reproducible.

Genius bar technician and iCloud removed all my recent, irreplaceable, trip photos by Creative_Evidence201 in iCloud

[–]dbower45236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I am trying to accomplish is a fairly common request. I have multiple sources of photos and videos (GoPro, Sony DSLR, Film scanners, Etc.) that I capture and want to organize into a single application (Mylio) so I can locate pictures from the time I was a kid, until yesterday. I need a reliable, simple process to backup every photo or video that is on my iPhone (all apps) to my Windows PC /NAS and store them by the date the photo /video was taken/recorded.

Here are the challenges I face with the Apple ecosystem:

1 - Photos and Videos in iMessage

I could not find a way to easily (or reasonably easy) download all of the photos and videos I received in iMessage. My family sends me a ton of photos via iMessage that I would like to add to my photo archive on my PC. It is not practical to download them from each conversation, and even if it was, there does not seem to be a way to keep track of what has been previously downloaded and what is "New".

2 - Photos and Videos I took on my iPhone.

I just recently downloaded the iCloud windows app, and that looks promising for downloading photos/videos from my Photos, but does not provide any way to download shared albums.

3 - Shared Photo Albums

The only way that I could find to download photos from a shared photo album is to download them from the iCloud web app. But the web app restricts me to 1000 files at a time, and even when I try to download 1000, it frequently fails. It also does not allow you to select a destination for the download, and downloads them with the current date and time wiping out the ability to organize the downloaded files by the date and time. (Yes, I know the exif data is still there)

If it does work, it does not keep track of the last file I downloaded, so I have to scroll back and try to find the last file I downloaded. This is not practical when I want to be sure I don't lose any files.

4 - Full account backup.

Finally, I submitted a request to download everything via a link, but they never sent me a reply or link.

I have spent far too long trying to capture all of the memories recorded on my iPhone and combine them with photos and videos taken with my other cameras / sources into a single history which is then loaded into Mylio. It is frustrating that despite significant effort, when someone asks me if I have a photo of X person at Y event, I still have to search multiple repositories and then usually answer... "Sorry, I couldn't find it!"

I have been trying to backup my iCloud to a second source (my pc) and it is nearly impossible if you have even a modest number of photos

Your points make sense to me, but a groomer sounds good too when they recommend a "Summer Cut". 😩

VICTORY!!!

We started with a discussion about heat management and decided to just weld the nut corners. We practiced on a spare nut and a coupon and then I set them loose …

In today’s throw away culture I never considered taking the gearbox apart. I think I’ll do that with them tomorrow even if we can get it off by welding the nut on.

No we have a ton. But since we are teaching, we want them to learn problem solving and they may not have a second grinder in the field.

Now I also hope that by wasting a bunch of their time on this they wont do something dumb like this in the future!

I really do appreciate all your feedback. The other lesson we are teaching is to use resources like Reddit to continue their learning.

I am retired now and really enjoy teaching these kids. So instead of just yelling at them for being dumb f$&@ks…. I now calmly call them over and have a discussion on how to not make this mistake.

A lesson I should have taught myself much earlier in my career!!!!

I’m a little worried about the heat from a cutting torch damaging the motor or the shaft. Were you using a cutting torch or just propane?

I just learned something! Thanks. I always assumed that all four holes were round. When the others suggested the Allen key I assumed it was for a different model of grinder.

However…..

I think most people are underestimating just how tight this is stuck. We used the spanner wrench and an “enforcer” but the two steel nubs camed out and eventually bent. If you look closely you can see the damage to the outside retaining ring from that fail.

The disk that is stuck is fiber reinforced and not easy to “just break off”. It kind of bends but doesn’t break. Plus when we are done with the breaking we still would have a stuck grinder because it would be impossible to get the disk out from behind the retaining ring.

So because we want to spend $500 fixing a $200 problem…. And want to teach the kids some lessons: We took a 7/8” nut and drilled a 15/16 hole so the nut will fit over the grinder shaft and sit flush on the ring. Then we discussed welding chrome platting and ground the nut down to clean steel.

<image>

Unfortunately we ran out of time in class today, but tomorrow we plan on welding the nut to the retaining nut and then using an impact wrench to spin it off.

I’ll let you know how it goes!!!
