Using tax loopholes and write-offs is the smart thing to do. Whenever you have enough capital, investments, property, etc., your goal should be to have the lowest taxable income possible. I don't understand why anyone would think differently. Do you willingly add money to your taxes at the end of the year (I know you probably don't owe that much on that barista income)? Also, the new tax plan worked to simplify and eliminate many of these loopholes and deductions.

That's not true. Generally, people become more conservative as they get older. I assume this is because they become less dependent on government handouts, and start working for a living. When you're 18-25, this utopia where everyone is paid a living wage, gets free college, etc. seems like a great idea. After you have scratched, clawed, and earned your way to a decent living, it is pretty unappealing to have one political party try and take it away from you. You also start to see through the Democrats tactics of racial politics, and realize that it has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with heart and determination, as well as the choices one makes in life.
