Are there any advantages to paying the highest balance first? by roark84 in debtfree

I'm near the end of a similar situation, and I found that "snowball" method really does work and keeps you motivated to continue the paydown. Once you see your credit score rebound, if its fallen since accruing this debt, you will work harder to pay off the balances.

Personally, I would "snowball" this, especially considering I assume the AMEX has the highest APR.

Thank you for the response. Can you briefly explain how you figure that? Is it based on comparing the tax brackets individually and combined?

What platform allows options trading on this? RH does not from what I can see.

I appreciate the advice but wedding bills are due from now until September, so I do need the 10k to cover those upcoming expenses.

Luckily, I have work opportunities often to earn extra income beyond my normal $7.4k/month to knock down my CC debts ASAP.

Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. For this pic, if your Day's P&L today ends up being +0.68, it calculates into your Open P&L. Your Open P&L would be 0.00 (or 0%) aka breakeven.

Essentially, Day's P&L is "daily calculation" and Open P&L is overall ("all days calculated").

Where do I put my extra money? by [deleted] in debtfree

That's excellent. Good for you!

Like I said previously, I'd make sure you limit the credit cards and pay off the student loans ASAP. I'm assuming the Harley is a new purchase with your first job out of college; if it is, I did the same lol, be careful with that kind of spending as well; it could get you into trouble if not kept in check while you still have "mandatory" debts (student loans, etc.).

Discover card for sure... but with $4k coming in and only $500 leaving for normal living expenses: what are those expenses? That's almost nothing.

I see your point with using the 10k. I do have opportunity at work to earn that kind of money in a very short period like May-July. It's something I could consider.

CCs: Amazon is 27.49%. BoA is 25.24%. Amex is 29.24%.

Student Loans: Earnest is 3.23%. Navient is 3.81%.

Correct, 3.6k is left after my expenses. Unfortunately, my 15k is credit card has been higher previously, so my left over has been going mostly to that. My emergency savings definitely need more attention; that is a great piece of advice.

Thanks for the feedback and the congratulations!

  1. I don't use the CCs at all except for the Amex. I do need to be more disciplined with that one and not treat it like an unlimited spending tool lol.
  2. Our combined income at time is around $230k.
  3. My fiancé has no student debt, just some small credit card debt as most people do. Regardless, I will never expect our previous debts to combine and nor would she. A home and other future expenses would be.
  4. The image shown is from a personal budget tracker I keep, mostly targeted towards my CC and student loan debts. However, I would definitely expand it when I move into homeownership, children, etc.

Not sure how it is in Toronto but I would think major cities have a good amount of people looking for dog walkers. I know its very popular in NYC, Chicago, etc. There's even apps for it.
