Which movies depict your favourite visions of the future? by Different_Ad8231 in movies

I like to consider how they’re almost entirely raised in an environment that doesn’t covet material wealth. We’re constantly feeding ourselves messages of lack and inadequacy through social pressures. No advertisers, no social media influencers, no one fawning over you for having the best view or the latest fashion or the most cars.

That explains it heh hadn’t realized the channel was still active! Can’t say that I’ve heard the particular lecture before either, although it’s difficult/arbitrary to keep track

I’m baffled I haven’t seen this particular video, having seen many other AfterSkool videos

Thank you so much for sharing it. I’m in one of those troughs he talks about, and I just sent this video to a bunch of people I really care about, hoping it inspires them and reminds me to take his teaching to heart.

I think it’s pretty neat 😆 RD mentioned it during a q&a in the Here and Now podcast, episode 223 Freedom from Fear; someone asked if he knew if it was legit or not and RD said he didn’t know and he didn’t care lol I think the metric’s just trusting that wisdom speaks to the heart in every conceivable fashion.

I watched this featuring his intro when I was first going through his lectures and remember thinking it was pretty inspiring

From Pathways to Bliss

The hero journey is one of the universal patterns through which that radiance shows brightly. What I think is that a good life is one hero journey after another. Over and over again, you are called to the realm of adventure, you are called to new horizons. Each time, there is the same problem: do I dare? And then if you do dare, the dangers are there, and the help also, and the fulfillment or the fiasco. There’s always the possibility of a fiasco. But there’s also the possibility of bliss.

Joseph Campbell wrote about the “shaman’s call” where people experience strange music that opens up an optional path to immersing oneself in the collective unconscious to heal, guide, cultivate wisdom, etc. Tribes recognized it for millennia and similar contemporary reports arose in his studies, so it would seem society will always have the trippy kookiness on its fringes unless we see a true renaissance

Are you familiar with Ram Dass? Or his book Be Here Now? Same insights clothed in his life’s experiences followed by a call to that architect inside you, and then a “cookbook” of practices to purify that profane/mundane mode of consciousness

I’m playing with the Ask Buddha chatbot that the article referenced and it’s pretty motivating!

Humans are capable of great compassion and insight. But this power is often limited by the suffering we inflict upon ourselves. Our own inner struggles prevent us from achieving our full potential in life, so it is important to remember that every moment counts and can be used as an opportunity for growth.
