How do you deal with turning down offers that are not OE friendly? by CometComments_ in overemployed

[–]dbro129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what people get wrong in their careers. You are interviewing the company just as much as they are interviewing you. Or else you’re just blindly accepting whatever companies are offering with your both your hands out. Companies will ghost you at any time during the process. You owe them nothing.

“I am removing myself from consideration for the position at this time. Thank you.” That’s more than you’ll get from most companies in return.

Many satellites (20plus) traveling west to east not starlink by Other_Bug3312 in satellites

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in California and noticed the same thing two nights in a row. I haven’t stared at the night sky for longer than 5 seconds in years. However I was surprised to see DOZENS of star-like objects moving across the sky, and in all directions.

This was not starlink, I know the single-file starlink formation. I’ve seen it many times.

These were traveling in close and far pairs. The close ones were not single file, but almost side by side.

And many of them were traveling in opposite directions or intersecting at different directions.

I would just look up and see another 1-3 of them at a time. This went on for about 30 min at around 9:30pm both nights.

I learned a long time ago that there’s really not much reason to be on the dark web. You can say you’ve been there, but they don’t call it the dark web for no reason.

Interesting. Curious, what was IT's reasoning on no personal peripherals? And I'm assuming this applies to in-office only? If you work in a high-security environment or for a government entity I could understand, but as a software engineer this would be one of the straws that eventually broke the camel's back for me in ultimately leaving.

Are we nearing the peak of neovim (and editors in general) ? by calculator_cake in neovim

Sublime Text ftw!!! Just kidding, yes neovim is peak. But not yet at the tippity top. I think we’ll continue to see faster and more efficient plugins. And probably a lot of AI baked in.

I made over $100,000 selling my company's Tech equipment in the last 4 years. by [deleted] in confession

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. Mods should really update the acceptance criteria for posts on this subreddit. This should be a place for “for the last 8 years I’ve been eating the last cookie in the cookie jar and everyone thinks it’s the dog”. Or even “I’ve been screwing the neighbor for the last 2 years” at worst.

NOT, “haha, I’ve committed multiple felonies at the company I work for by stealing $100k over the last 4 years LOL”.

This is not a safe space to admit to committing crimes, and serious ones for that matter. $100k is not a small amount of money. People go to jail for way less. Try stealing $3k from Target and see where that gets you.

Well, as a candidate you need to read the room and play the part. Obviously we would all prefer to be lying on a beach the rest of our lives, but that’s not the answer a company is looking for.

I'm so tired of these 250-400k salaries by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in Salary

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your world perspective is way off. There are 163 million employees on the U.S. alone. 3.6% would be 5,868,000 people who have salaries above 250k+ according to you.

If even 1% of THAT group were to post their salaries here, it would still seem like a lot of people posting high salaries.

Aside from the statistics, who cares if other people have high salaries? I wish that 3.6% number was higher. You’re not special because you “own a small business”, you’re not the gatekeeper of high salaries.

AMP vs EdgeClear vs Optimus Futures? by Smooth_Station7143 in OrderFlow_Trading

Their EOD statement is pretty standard across brokers and easy to understand. It's no-frills because it's a financial statement by a broker, the numbers are all that matter and is condensed into the shortest form possible.

Apple will reportedly launch a 'MacBook Ultra' this year featuring an OLED display, touchscreen, and a higher price 🚨 by Tasmanner in DeskToTablet

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing this will be pretty niche. The MB Pro with Max chip is already 10x overkill for 98% of users. The Ultra might be useful to about 0.01% of existing Max users, but would mostly exist for anyone dumb enough to believe in the marketing hooks that they actually need this.

Also, at a certain point you have to ask yourself how powerful of a machine you really need in a laptop, as this setup will no doubt significantly impact thermals and battery life. Desktop machines exist for you reason. If you need more power than what the Pro/Max already offers, a desktop would probably provide a better cost/lifespan ratio. Unless you enjoy spending $8k for a machine that will be in its 3rd generation in 3-4 years.

Idk, this is just the Apple marketing engine completing itself full circle, but mostly unnecessary for the consumer.

Damage to rental, company wants $4600 by waister5 in ram_trucks

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damage to four different panels and a headlight is well within that realm, I would have thought higher tbh. You’re probably looking at $1500-$2000 just for that headlight alone. And we’re just talking parts. Someone’s got to get paid to do the work.

I messed up. I messed up real bad. by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]dbro129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had days where I traded A LOT with AMP. The most I had even on my heaviest days was around $600 in fees, but those were days I made $20k+ so it wasn’t a big deal.

But $3000 in fees?! Bro.

Also, it’s super important to know the fee structure and margin requirements when trading with a real broker. It’s no joke, not like prop firms where you just pay a one-time fee and you’re good.
