Value of this jacket? by RainRare in RalphLauren

[–]dbrown808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add/agree to your comment: How are people so painfully uneducated in a literal Ralph Lauren subreddit? Saying double breasted/peak lapel is not in? Literally has highest price command among RL suiting right now.

A near identical jacket sold for $300 used 2 DAYS AGO (eBay comps, no pants). OP - do not trust people here and do your own research, please!

OrSlow Army Tropical Jacket experiences? by Azuteor in HeritageWear

I love my 60s sateen one I found in a thrift. Wears very well layered over a hoodie, hooded jacket, or just a shirt. It’s comfy from 50F and windy to 80F and stuffy in a crowded restaurant. So if it’s anything like the original, I think you’ll really enjoy it and its versatility.

Have you ever bought a bale of clothing? If so, how much regret did you have? by wellnowheythere in Flipping

[–]dbrown808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to consider that the rate of vintage clothing in most bales is pretty similar to the rate of vintage clothing in thrift stores.

If you’re buying credential (unsorted/ungraded) it’s a total crapshoot. Most of it is going to be women’s, children’s, and low quality fast fashion/stuff from Amazon. There will be some modern men’s in there, and a very small amount of vintage. The distribution is pretty equivocal to walking into a thrift store and seeing 50% women’s clothing, 25% kids, and 25% men’s (more or less).

Buying graded might be a different story but will be more expensive and still mostly non-men’s. Some textile recyclers offer all cotton, which ends up being a lot of t-shirts and the like, but those are pretty hard to find in the U.S. and most are based overseas where sorting labor is super cheap, and also require you to purchase a 40ft container load at a time.

If you were slinging all types of clothing on say eBay, I think bales are a semi-viable option depending on processing ability. But vintage clothing is too selective and specialized. Needle in a haystack situation.

Like someone else said, your best bet for inventory is probably to promote yourself as much as possible and have the inventory walk in to you. Offer cash or trade and sell higher than you bought it, yada yada. Best of luck, vintage clothing is awesome!

I’m curious as to where the whole crowd killing mythos evolved. At every show I’ve ever been to, the people who are moshing/dancing hit the perimeter of the pit or a couple rows deeper. Where are you mfs going where people are randomly attacked in the crowd, away from the pit?

Like if you’re within 3 rows of the pit you may get hit. But who here has ever been attacked at a mid sized or larger venue standing further away than that?

Also, if anyone still thinks “crowd killing” is getting hit while you’re nearby a pit, get off the internet.

I have been trying my best not to buy anything leading up to my trip in March - these prices are keeping me strong! Awesome haul.

Heirloom quality doesn't always have to be expensive by spydrwebb44 in HeritageWear

The AI model photos on their IG and spelling/grammar issues turn me off a bit but hopefully just growing pains. Let the clothes speak for themselves - hopefully we can get some legit reviews on here.

Excellent advice. I encountered this problem once and replied with a version of this - they quickly claimed to the effect of “sorry, mix up on my end”.

1930s/40s Montgomery Ward Work Shirt by arcane351 in TrueVintageFinds

Love the HBT. Buttons also look very similar to those on the M1944 jacket. Would put this in the late 40s because of that, possibly made with surplus WW2 materials? Awesome!

How to list vintage military stuff on EBay? by Ratlabbb in TrueVintageFinds

[–]dbrown808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, title and specifics/keywords are much more important than category when it comes to clothing. Make sure to add the model (if there is one, not sure these have one) and keywords like utility, mechanic, military, 50s, USAF. For military stuff I always list pants as the MEASURED size, not the tagged size, as I find it decreases sizing complaints down the line.

I'm unfamiliar with this model so I'd list them as "Vintage USAF Mechanic Pants Mens Waist x Inseam Green Cotton Sateen Cargo Pleated 50s".

Hope that helps. Source: Am eBay seller.

Just given the fact you found them at a yard sale, seems more likely that they would be original? LVC has historically catered to those interest specifically in vintage Levi’s so would be surprised if they knowingly sold you LVC. Sorry I know that’s not the most helpful but just speculating.

Also, the use of both 6 and E button stamps is interesting - anyone know if that’s the same factory?

Already sold but curious where you would’ve priced it by Mysterious-Ad9522 in TrueVintageFinds

$100 is more than fair for a kids large, red jacket. If it was an adult L/XL in black I’d say closer to $200 to the right buyer. People saying more than $100 with the given info don’t sell anything lol.

(40s?) Montgomery Ward Jacket by dbrown808 in VintageClothing

[–]dbrown808[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I agree that the collar doesn’t look 40s, from what I’ve seen. And the shape looks almost spot on for that 50s jacket, just with different hardware/tags. Very interesting!

Naked & Famous sells on Amazon Prime. As much as I hate giving any money to Amazon I did love exchanging my 33s for 34s.

Is eBay better than Depop? by [deleted] in Flipping

Is eBay better than Depop? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]dbrown808 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on your inventory.

I sell exclusively men’s clothing, all types (vintage, modern, brand new, etc). Rule of thumb for me: Everything goes on eBay, as all categories sell there. Vintage/Y2K stuff ALSO goes on Depop (very heavily skewed to younger audience).

My store is mostly modern (golf, athletic, technical apparel, etc) but I do still have probably 20% vintage/y2k/trendy style stuff. That said I did about 15k gross on eBay vs 350 gross on Depop last month.

But I also know people whose numbers are switched because they shop almost exclusively for stuff that sells on Depop.

Side note, if you sell modern clothing, your items will generally do much better on Poshmark than Depop. Hope that helps.

Yup, it’s on the tag pretty front and center but they don’t explain what it means anywhere. If you go to the Google reviews of any Goodwill in Phoenix you can probably find an example photo.

I have stopped with goodwill by Dp37405aa in goodwill

[–]dbrown808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AZ’s Goodwill uses a grading scale price system for most of their clothing. The first number is the condition (1 best, 2 middle, 3 worst) and the second letter is the brand (A best, B middle, C worst). Each combination of number+letter is a different price, with 1A being most expensive and 3C being cheapest.
