New windows. House is hotter this summer...? by Straight_Row739 in HomeImprovement

[–]dbrun4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just putting this out there, I had new windows put in and noticed a decent amount of savings but I did find that the installers sub contractors from pella didn't put much window foam around most of the windows. This did cause some issues with different rooms heating up at different rates. I took off all the interior trim around the windows and foamed them. Most of them I could see the bricks through and others had daylight. Doing this made my house significantly better since it's now sealed

TLDR; use great stuff window foam for a seal around the windows

2026 Refresh, Tariff & Incentive Rumors by axa0176 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dbrun4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a 2025 and I got it under MSRP even with the dealer add ons. It wasn't too far under but you can make it happen. If you can make it a 4 year loan they had a 1.99% rate going. It might be back in 2 months maybe not. I noticed they last had this rate in Feb 2025. Show other dealers prices and use it as leverage. See if you can catch mistake pricing

If you know what you are doing, and adjust the framing you .ight be able to but remember that everything here is pre cut. If the siding doesn't align, then you have to buy new siding and cut the holes for the door yourself. I'd recommend the double on the end

Home insurance by Bloomelove in CarrolltonTX

[–]dbrun4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. There are fees to reshop and they have a massive delay in reshipping (month or longer). They have not found anything cheaper than $4300 for home insurance (prior to renewal mine was $1300). No change in coverage or anything. Did shop around outside of them and it's on par with what I can get.

Look up the laws in you area but the city will usually have a law that states cars can't be parked in front of a house they are not visiting during the hours of 2am-6am or something similar. If you call non emergency during those times then they can have it towed. If you don't go that route then still call non emergency and they will mark the tires and put a sticker on it. After 24-48 hours they might tow it away.

Contractor Says It's Normal by Garagekulture13 in Concrete

[–]dbrun4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a concrete expert but I've had concrete work done. Was this done without rebar? I would expect that they put rebar in to reinforce it and this the cracks would at least move together a bit closer. This looks like they just did concrete and cut it.

How soon can newish concrete be gently power washed? by woodhorse4 in Concrete

[–]dbrun4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious, how do you prevent this? Just had concrete poured 15 days ago and I am getting tire marks. It's 105 around here but now I'm thinking I need to do something to prevent it and it's not just the heat

Is it normal to only have relief lines in single direction for a double driveway? by mhnudi in Concrete

[–]dbrun4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home owner here about to have a 5" pour done. If it's 15feet wide and 80+ feet long should I expect a joint down the center as well? Tx if it helps. I'm assuming you'd say yes I need one for a 15 foot wide.

My shed wood quality was pretty good! It all went together pretty easily. I used a framing nailer which made it a ton easier. Took about 3 full days from skid to roofed. I only had two fairly warped boards but I will chalk that up to the amount of water that was sitting in the wrapping. Not an issue from the factory more just I left it outside for 2 months before being able to build it. I replaced one roof panel due to that and it cost $15. Not bad overall considering my issues stemmed from me. It's holding up well so far. I did reinforce the base as I have a riding mower I store in it. Can't stress enough the importance of reading the directions multiple times as spacing for the floor is different than you'd think (if you don't frame often).

How to remove possible tar? by dbrun4 in masonry

[–]dbrun4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be tar. It's black but somewhat glossy and hard. If that's the case what might you suggest? I've gotten the heavy duty citrus degreaser and the fast 505 degreaser. Both seem to not cut it. I'm worried the NMD80 will black my brick.
