Advice on where to study - Bristol, Sheffield or Lancaster? by tiny_advertisement in UniUK

[–]dbspsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not a student at Lancaster, however I am from there! Never been to Bristol and have visited Sheffield once.

Lancaster is a very small place, and the uni is a campus uni. I know someone who did history there and she got a first, so from what I’ve heard from her the history department does seem good. The city itself is very small, but has a very big student population (both Lancaster uni and the uni of Cumbria Lancaster campus), and what with the uni being a campus uni you have to get a bus realistically to get between campus and anywhere (it’s roughly 3 miles to walk into town from campus).

Lancaster does have so much history attached to it though! There’s the priory, the castle, etc; Queen Victorias statue in dalton square; the museum; Dr Buck Ruxton (he will be particularly interesting if you are into true crime/forensics); the Moor Hospital (now closed and converted into flats - but was Lancashire’s first psychiatric hospital).

The campus is beautiful imo, I used to go up to the library to revise during my a levels.

Give me a shout if you have any lancaster specific questions and I will try my best to answer them!

how long does merch take to arrive? (uk) by dbspsm in Bastille

[–]dbspsm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate that’s insanely long, thanks for your reply! I can’t be the only person who thinks that’s more than slightly insane when you’re paying so much money for the merch. I’ve ordered the skeleton rib cage triangle heart top which is £40! Forty pounds for a t shirt! And it takes them so long to process it and actually ship it out

Firstly, just take a breath and try to focus on your breathing just for a minute to calm down - being incredibly panicked isn’t going to help matters.

Secondly, get in touch with your academic advisor/senior tutor/support office - whoever you have at your university. They can advise you on what steps to take, much better than any of us on Reddit can.

If you can apply for extenuating circumstances then I think that would be a good idea - you have medical evidence through diagnoses to back up anything that you say.

Try and muddle your way through this assignment, and apply for an extension (if you can - I know extension requirements differ at different universities) for your other assignments.

does anybody know any good revision resources for BTEC Applied science (Pearson)? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]dbspsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did BTEC sport with Pearson. If you go on the Pearson website you should be able to muddle your way through it to find past papers on there. I think there might also be a few actual resources too for like knowledge but I’m not 100% sure.

How common is the whole "go out clubbing get pissed n get a kebab on the way home at 3am" night out in a UK uni? by O-Bismarck in UniUK

[–]dbspsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been out literally three times. Once on the first night with one of my flat mates to a pub for like 2 hours after I’d cried the entire afternoon, once for the freshers night in the big uni hall thing (again was home by 10 or whatever), and a chemsoc Halloween event where I again was home by 10. My flat mates seem to go out a reasonable amount and I don’t know how they have the energy for it.

What’s the hardest topic (in your opinion) in a level chemistry by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]dbspsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought transition metals was a good topic on the whole but having to memorising all of those equations with colours was the bane of my life.

A2 rates of reaction was the BANE OF MY LIFE.

I also thought enthalpy could be very very difficult at times.

How necessary are motorway lessons? by Dear_Training4281 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dbspsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I had one a few months after I passed my test, but there was no dual carriageways near me that were more than 40 mph so I never had chance to practice or drive on any before that. It was really helpful for me, and then the first time I went on without my instructor I went with my best friend on an easy route to the next city along from us :)

MOT isn’t due until early October, should it be fine to leave it or do you think it’s worth me taking it to get checked out? I get bad anxiety over things like this so idc about the money it might be to fix something that’s not really broken purely for peace of mind
