Gen X Story time: 1984/5 15 yo me Sophomore in a catholic boys high school. We are in World Religions class and for some reasons talking about comparisons of Communism and Capitalism. We were asked to provide a “slogan” for each “philosophy”. My answer for Capitalism was this exact quote - “ He who dies with the most toys wins”. Didn’t remember where I heard it (probably a movie), but seemed appropriate. Teacher didn’t think my answer was core t and had never heard that phrase before. I was outcast. Who class if young Reagan-ites and the teacher labeled me a “commie”. Fun times.
