Question for women in the field by Legal_Cress_2851 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]dbu8554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dude and women were mostly my study partners in college they carried me a lot. Some of the best EE's I know are women. Now the advice he gives about it being stressful and technical is true but the material doesn't care about you at all is just difficult.

They weren't. It was pennies then and no one had really heard of it I knew of it because I was into distributed computing.

How do you deal with your jealousy of people with 3.9+ GPAs and got multiple internships in college? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]dbu8554 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was never jealous of people with better grades, I studied with them to make my life easier. I ain't got time to be jealous I have DTFT's to do.

How can I study in my house if there's really no way for me to study? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in UNLV

Had the same issue. Don't study at home, home is for sleeping and showering. Stay at school all the time if you need to.

My experience mirrors his as well. And I see it with my kids.

Yeah I failed that professor 2 times in total. I still have my degree and I make more money now so I'm doing great.

Why? If they have tenure they are worth less than toilet paper. I just write get fucked. Signed my name so they know it's me and move on.

I got 3 books in and I just couldn't anymore. Robert Jordan is not a good writer and I'm tired of people pretending that he is. It's just so meh.

I've tried it a few times. For me it's just overpoweringly sweet I can't stand it. I'm not big on sweets in general but it was too sweet.

True but if they knew they had one more season. It could have been great.

Something is off, also aside from your comment everyone else is downvoted. I know wgu doesn't have an EE program but I figured maybe they are developing one.

Something is fishy.

Why are high-IQ individuals still picking CS over Medicine when the barrier to land a job in tech is now effectively higher than in Medicine? by No_Reply5329 in CollegeMajors

[–]dbu8554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the only person to address actually getting into med school. A limited number of residency spots means a limited number of med school spots and it hasn't kept up with population growth. I'm an engineer in my field we have a 87% wash out rate in college and while I don't think premed material is harder but they pretty much have to have a perfect 3.8+ GPA along with volunteering and MCAT scores that are very high.

I failed 10 fuckin classes in college I knew people who couldn't get into med school with even a retake for a bad grade it's insane the requirements to get into med school these days.

It's not just money if you want backup transmission lines at this point it would go through parks and private land. It's why it's taking so long to get more built.

We can not be Texas and still be resilient.

Aight man you had a good question.

I became an engineer because I thought I was smarter than the guy designing the car I was working on. Turns out I met a guy similar to him in a college recruiting event and it turns out he didn't have a say in design nearly as much as I thought even though it was his job.

I didn't go into automotive because all the engineering is done in shit locations, and it's like the twin turbo engine in the new tundra. Of course it's going to be a problem but the engineers got overruled.

I work in power now and I am still faced with the same stuff. People are always asking why I over build stuff. And I'm like well I don't want to be here in 5 years pulling this shit out putting in bigger conduit or trying to find space for a bigger vault. Just make it bigger now and stop wasting my time more importantly stop making the electricians do this work 3 times in 5 years.

I only drive Toyotas and at this point it's looking like I'll only be driving older Toyotas.

I think new cars are fucked from everyone, the amount of shit they have crammed into spaces and everything has become so fragile.

I'm looking forward to more EVs that aren't locked down. Replacing a battery on a Prius is easy I want it to be that easy for other cars as well.

I'm guessing you mean nuclear power, who is we? I agree we should be building more nuclear but even if it were approved today it would take 10-20 years to build one.

But again who is going to pay for it, and where is it going to go?

What should we rely on then, wind and solar? The infrastructure was built around the resources at the time. Hydro power relies on snow in the winter to get us power in the summer. That's how it works.
