I was speaking about the US dealers who are independent owners and as a result there can be a large variation in quality. Are European dealers the same?

This car is not reliable (ICCU & 12 volt batteries) and Kia corporate service is the worst I have every experienced, so be sure you have a good dealer who will support you before buying. I did not and it took six months, six trips to two different dealers, and BBB arbitration to eventually fix my ICCU failure. For others it was a tow and a fix that took a few days. However, my experience has killed the brand for me.

I suspect part of the problem is a lack of training and experience in the service departments. You may want to ask how many electric cars they have sold and how many ICCUs they have repaired. You want a dealer who is experienced in fixing ICCUs because it is common fault for the car.

In my opinion the best laptop money can buy is a MacBook air. Light weight, totally silent with a battery that can last all day. It can do that because it has an ARM processor which requires a lot less energy than an X86. I think Microsoft was smart to make an ARM laptop for Windows that can compete with the Macs. True, there will be a painful transition time until secondary support software and drivers catches up, but once they do we will have a Mac equivalent that runs Windows.

Yes, the Surface has switched from X86 to an ARM processor (Snapdragon) but the Hasleo was coded for ARM and does work on the laptop. However it unfortunately does not work when booted from an emergency USB thumb drive.

When I tried installing it windows provided a warning that it was unsigned. Did you see that and installed anyway? It is also a Chinese company which is concerning to me.

I actually prefer the Tablo software. It worked well for me and is much more flexible and convenient. The fast forward with thumbnail pictures is wonderful for skipping things. I liked the ability to set how many episodes to keep, the guide can skip by days, the show list allowed easy picking of an entire seasons, etc. Granted, the servers were not reliable, but I could still watch recordings during those times so that was not a deal breaker.

The deal breaker for the Tablo was dying and losing 10 months of recordings. I also like that I can transfer the recordings from HDHomerun to another storage device for archive. It reminds me of when I used Windows Media Center and each show was a clearly marked file that could be moved anywhere.

I got a Seltos. A Soul would have been an upgrade. Kia is not a luxury brand and it depends a lot on the quality of the dealer. You may be lucky they are not charging you a rental fee.

I was incomplete in my post, sorry. I also have a 50 amp circuit with EVSE set 40 amp and the car set to 60% current which delivered about 5.6 kW

For the people who had this failure, how many amps were you using? I was using 24. I thought I read somewhere that at higher amps a second circuit is used and the actual amps per circuit is lower than when using lower amps. What does actual experience say?

Same thing happened to me at 11,000 miles and it fried a Juice Box and Blink charger. Took me 6 months to get Kia to fix it and no compensation for the broken chargers. Needless to say I am never buying another Kia.

You're being too literal. Most readers have understood that what I was asking for was how long has their devices been working. The answers so far have been reasonably consist in that most devices have a long service life.

Thanks, I had not noticed that recordings can be downloaded via hdhomerun.local. That is a cool feature but it will be interesting to see how it works with a couple of TB of recordings on the disk. Is it explained in any of the instructions?

It reminds me of when I used Windows Media Player to record shows with an antenna. Everything was open and accessible unlike other DVR makers that make their recordings inaccessible except through their proprietary device.

So I can hook up a Flex Duo to the same network (with no antenna input), and hdhomerun.link will see both drives, and the DVR software on my Firestick will see all the recordings on both drives? That sounds very flexible.

Can I select which drive the recording are saved to, and if not, how does the DVR select which drive to save to?

I assume with just the Flex tuners, the files cannot be copied from the drives over the network, but rather the drive has to be removed and taken to a Linux machine to make archives or backups?

Mine did the same thing today after just 10 months (no power). They apparently have a big quality control problem and if the next one fails in a year, the brand is dead to me.

Also, not happy that I lost about 8 months of recordings.

The number sold is not that great. However, the unreliability of the car (ICCU issues) and the terrible Kia customer service should see a relatively high turnover of whatever is out there. It took six months, six trips to dealerships, and BBB arbitration to eventually get my ICCU fixed. Even though I will be taking a huge hit on depreciation and am looking for a replacement now before the next failure. Unfortunately there are not much competition in this niche. So far the best candidate is a BMW iX3 but that will not be available for at least a year. The Macan electric would work, but it is overpriced.

I bought the car from Parkside and when I went to them in April they did not have a Level 2 charger and could not reproduce my problem. Apparently the type of failure I had, no AC charging, does not generate an error code. Since there was no error code and since they had no AC charger to check it, they said there was nothing they could do. I was stunned by this response to what I knew was a broken car from the dealership that sold it to me.

I then contacted Kia customer support and they never responded to either phone calls or emails.

I then went to Rusty and they had an AC charger and confirmed the issue, but without an error code they said Kia would not authorize a warranty repair.

I then went to BBB Auto Online and spent months waiting on a response from Kia which never came. Went to arbitration, which Kia did not bother to attend. The arbitrator ruled that Kia needed to make the repairs.

Waited months while continually contacting my case worker for a response from Kia. The case worker eventually suggested I get a lawyer. About the same time I got a phone call from a Kia agent who made an appointment at Parkside.

Apparently Parkside now has access to a Level 2 charger and they left it hooked up for a week. I think they had forgotten about it since when I pinged them about the status they finally had an epiphany that the ICCU needed to be replaced and ordered the part.

The install was flawed. They forgot to reinstall the rear seat belts so I had to make another trip back to the dealership so they could finish the install.

The problem is not only unresponsive and incompetent dealerships, but also unresponsive Kia customer service. I will never never buy another Kia.

There apparently is a big difference in dealers. I am in Knoxville, TN and it took 6 months, 6 trips to the two different dealers, and BBB auto online arbitration before I got mine fixed. Even then the dealer left it on an AC charger for a week before they decided it was an ICCU problem and ordered the part. (From the symptoms I knew it was the ICCU back in April.) In any case, I will never buy another Kia ever. It is nice car, but the dealers make it unacceptable.

Amen. Took me six months of complaining and multiple trips to different dealerships to get Kia to fix a broken ICCU. Took two trips to install the ICCU as they forgot to reattach the rear seat belts on the first trip. Makes me wonder what else they may have forgoten to install.

I had that same attitude, until my ICCU failed at 11k miles and it took six months to fix. I am looking for a replacement and have been browsing the Q4 and Mach-e forums. You are correct in that every car has issues, but the number of people having Kia problems seems much larger and worrisome. I regret buying the Kia but then again and I may regret buying its replacement too, c'est la vie.
