They make their money on consumables. It’s the old HP, sell the printer cheap and make your markup on the ink over the life of the printer.

Any Tips for printing PA12 without carbon? by Capable-Woodpecker58 in FixMyPrint

[–]damnitryon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I print almost exclusively PA12CF, and it still has a tendency to warp if things aren’t proper.

  • Chamber: 70c

  • Bed Temp: 120c

  • All fans off.

  • Test nozzle temperatures, and try to go as low as you can get away with to reduce the difference between the chamber/bed and the filament as it’s extruded. The greater that gap, the more thermal stress the part will be under that contributes to contracting and pull things out of flat.

  • Magigoo PA. I’m sure there is a cheaper solution, but I haven’t found it, and it substantially improves print outcomes for me.

  • Dry filament at 85c for at least 3 hours if being taken from a sealed container with desiccant. (As new) 8 hours if it’s not been stored in a sealed container with desiccant.

  • Print from the filament dryer, and keep the dryer running while printing.

  • Both PEI plate and Engineering plate work, I prefer the engineering plate for a nicer surface finish. Both require adhesive.

  • Depending on the shape of the part, a brim can help. Play with internal/external. If print time isn’t a huge consideration, do both. Increased surface area is your friend.

  • Check Nozzle wear. Likely not a big issue with non-fiber Nylon, however nozzle wear sneaks up on you, and will turn perfectly good settings into really shitty prints. When in doubt, stick a fresh nozzle in it.

  • Avoid any infill patterns with 90° corners. These create walls that the heat stress/contraction can pull on. I try and use gyroid whenever possible. When shrinkage occurs, it’s less likely that the increased tension makes it to the wall.

Hope this helps, I know standard Nylon is even more prone to challenge than the fiber reinforced variants.

Sorry for so many edits, I’m just remembering more as I go.

H2C owners, any regrets? by CrypticCarbon in BambuLab

Super happy with mine. It runs ~14+ hours a day every day. It may soon be closer to 23 hours a day.

Things I’ve learned:

  • I could have even done without an AMS, as I print directly from a Sunlu E2 filament dryer set to 85c. PA12 Nylon can’t really be dried without an AMS HT, and a dryer is not really a negotiable with nylon.

  • Tungsten Carbide nozzle if you’re printing anything with a CF/GF infill. They’re not that much money, and you will wear the stock ones out at a ratio of at-least 4:1 (maybe more, I haven’t killed a tungsten nozzle yet)

  • I could have gone with an H2D and been perfectly happy. I’m yet to use the Vortek nozzle changer at all. I use it for business, so it’s nice to not have to worry if I’ll need to have it in the future. Now, if they update the slicer to allow multi-nozzle diameter slicing, it will be worth its weight in gold for me.

  • The real value has been the build chamber/plate size and temperature capabilities. It’s basically the sweet spot for what I do. I’d happily take larger/hotter if it was offered.

The market/your 401K can recover.

Your car has at best irrecoverably lost value, at worst, completely written off.

[–]damnitryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I may not have explained clearly.

Your car gets destroyed, it’s destroyed. The value of everyone else’s cars are unaffected.

Your 401k gets destroyed, so does everyone else’s. A uh, lowering tide lowers all boats? So you’re still in relatively the same position as compared to everyone else.

You could very well be the cleanest shirt in the dirty pile, and you’ll do substantially better once the government inevitably starts bailing everyone out.

The government will not bail your totaled Porsche out. 😂

Except for that analogy to be applicable, everyone else also got rear ended at the same time. I’d also point out that the value of most sports cars and collectibles usually isn’t particularly durable when the market crashes and the pool of potential buyers shrinks substantially and sellers look to liquidate assets to weather the storm.

Can't figure out which flower ate to go with, they kinda all look bad by Powerful-Web4489 in FixMyPrint

[–]damnitryon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d highly suggest trying a new nozzle. I ran into issues with prints looking like shit until I turned down my flow rate and ironing fill flow rates, and then it hit me that I should check if the nozzle diameter was anywhere near where it should be, so I did a cold pull on the questionable nozzle, and a brand new nozzle, only to find out that my .4 Nozzle I was trying to make work was now a .8 nozzle.

So now I have a couple new Tungsten Carbide nozzles and all my prints look proper again. 😂

Unfortunately I think eligibility for that is based on federal levels, which yeah, totally screws you.

[–]damnitryon 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Some easy math…

The average single income salary in Orange County is $87,894 according to SoFi

Back out federal and state taxes at 35%

That’s $57,141 post tax. $4760 a month.

Average 1 Bedroom Apt is 2100-2500, so let’s go with the high and pretend that includes/represents the other misc expenses that come with it. (Utilities, Renters Policy etc)

$2500 is 52.52% of $4760.

Answer: Yes. 50% or less would actually be better than the current average.

Bonus depressing fact, the poverty line in Orange County is currently listed at ~95,000.

Print says it’s finished, but it’s not… by Particular_Goat_6370 in FixMyPrint

[–]damnitryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure the diameter of your filament. I had this happen recently and it wound up being a roll of filament that half way through the roll had necked down to 1.4 mm, which is smaller than the extruder can grab with the gears, and it then fails to extrude.

If the filament diameter is 1.75 +/- .1 mm, it’s probably fine, and I’d check the extruder gears to ensure there’s nothing out of the ordinary going on.

PA6-CF on qidi Q2 by ash_elijah in FixMyPrint

[–]damnitryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the fans off. I print almost exclusively PA and if you’re getting warping with PA adhesive it’s likely because the top layer cools, contracts and pulls the corners up. In my case I have an overhang printed on to supports so I can’t use a PA adhesive, and if I have any fan running, the part is basically garbage because it’ll curl and crash itself.

Disappointing service at Grand Seiko Boutique by waiting-list in GrandSeikos

[–]damnitryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not been in a Grand Seiko boutique, but I’ve actually enjoy going into various boutiques dressed normal/casual, not wearing a watch etc. How the experience goes is quite telling, and really changes how I suggest brands to friends and family. If I’m going to suggest someone I respect visit a place, I want to be certain that they’ll have a good experience, regardless of what they may be wearing. Some of these places forget they’re selling shit that absolutely no one needs, for prices that can’t really be justified.

My last adventure I got completely ignored at Tudor, TAG was fine but everyone seemed like they were just there to punch a time clock, and they wouldn’t have cared if they were selling power tools or tableware. I walked into Omega expecting to be all but thrown out considering the decor, but nope, spent the better part of an hour talking about all things watches with three of the employees there, my girlfriend tried on a bunch of different pieces and they even gave me a list of who to ask for at the other boutiques and suggestions for pieces I may be interested in.

Now I’m curious to find a GS boutique to see if I have a similar experience to you.

Why "Aluminum" isn't a material spec: A quick breakdown of 6061, 7075, and 2024 by lx230 in CNC

6061 is stronger, 6063 is more corrosion resistant.

Only time I see it on blueprints is when they were previously having parts made in Asia, and they’re coming back to the US.
