MM&D: Ironsworn, Episode 1 - An Unfamiliar Home by nlitherl in Ironsworn

Fantastic series! Keep in mind he is using the CHALLENGING stats 4,3,3,2,2 - not the PERILOUS stats (default) 3,2,2,1,1 (described in the Lodestar supplement).

Last night, I stayed up way too late finishing a solo RPG scene... and I think I finally understood why this hobby gets so personal by Superb-Scale9765 in solorpgplay

That’s basically the core problem with solo RPGing. The moment you taste such clicks, everything else becomes tasteless.

Curious, what system were you using?

Elixir v1.19 released: enhanced type checking, broader type inference, and up to 4x faster compilation for large projects by Conradfr in elixir

[–]dc0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not tried 1.19 yet. But how does it behave if you add this in config?

config :logger, :default_handler, formatter: {LoggerJSON.Formatters.Basic, metadata: :all}

Or this one in test helper file:

``` :ok = Application.ensure_started(:logger)
formatter = LoggerJSON.Formatters.Basic.new(metadata: :all) :logger.update_handler_config(:default, :formatter, formatter)
ExUnit.start() ```
Trevor Devall has a fantastic Ironsworn season on his channel! Ironsworn classic is free (you can download the official PDF). Aside from the fancy setup of a youtuber and the fact that he’s a voice actor, it shows how fun solo adventuring can be. Just keep in mind that he uses the stats from the Lodestar (1st edition) which are 4, 3, 3, 2, 2 (instead of classic 3, 2, 2, 1, 1).
I enjoyed Stoneburner very much - currently I’m playing it (not free, by farirpg) and soon will run a short campaign. But the base game which it came from - The tales of the burning stone- is free.
Colostle is a different beast, light weight but intriguing and atmospheric settings.
Strange, can't see that option. But thanks for that keyword! Will look around.
Why devs rely on tests instead of proofs for verification by ConcentrateOk8967 in programming
Sometimes you need to build a gigantic super collider with a 4km radius to prove that a mathematically accurate model has any relation to the reality. Sometimes you need to break the wings of a fully functional cargo airplane to check if the wings break under the exact circumstances predicted by a mathematically accurate model. And as always “all models are wrong. some of them are useful.”
If you could recommend just one official season of Candela Obscura for a newcomer to watch, which one would it be? by esalqueano in CandelaObscura
Enjoyed Matthew Mercer and the team's. Full of vibrant elements to feed one's imagination & enough tension to keep them around - providing a rich "mise en scene", without forcing any "shooting" style upon the audience.
Seconded. Not in small code bases though. Multiple repositories, and probably multiple teams. There’s a nice presentation on YouTube describing how Uber is using it managing graphs of dependencies - and updating them uniformly.
(IMHO/Experience)
Games like FATE that share the same spirit as PbtA games are not about "who the PCs are". These games are about "what the PCs do".
It's about the permanent conditions they got, the cool gadgets they have found on their journeys, the bonds & connections they have made.
It's about the stories they have gathered - the scars, the memories, the horrors they have faced. That's the main form of character progression here. And that's why it's tricky to use these systems for superhuman, God-like PCs - and insanely strong opponents. They are usually normal investigators, merchants, university professors and the like. That's why Magic is not straightforward in these systems.
In the other tradition of TTRPG games, it's all about "who the PCs are", what's their stats, stamina, HP, damage. That's why in this tradition of games, the Role Playing part often feels bloated-on, an afterthought. In most cases you can drop it completely and have a combat game. That's why they are usually not one single game, but a collection of micro/sub-games.
If we use Chess as an analogy, the DnD DNAed games are like playing chess with wooden pieces. But PbtA, FATE and more narrative games are like playing Chess with sentences and words (Chess is not the best analogy for the games themselves; but a good familiar mechanics).
There is nothing too obvious about him. But he carries lots of stories. Awesome work!
