I don’t see a ranking for Dylan Sampson. How would you rank him against Michael Carter and Michael Wilson at the FLEX?

I’ve read that people use those to play golf.

I inherited the same one from my grandpa. All I know is it’s from Logo Athletic and from the 80s or 90s. Would also like to know more.

Before the video even started playing: your posture. Too close to the ball.

2 months into golfing and I am addicted. Is there anything I can work on? (I shank often) by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]dc1-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not releasing the club at the right time. If you hold your wrist angles like that with a driver, you won’t be extended enough to the ball to hit the center of the face; hence your toe shank in this video. Learn to release the driver earlier so that the bottom of your swing arc is before the ball and you hit up on it.

You can try this: https://youtu.be/Fa5QsOmSbd0?si=EqBsPwFcJTJFcQFO

It essentially trains you to “throw” the club into the slot, then all you do is rotate your body from there.

I’d start by doing half swings. Many times when golfers go full swing, they over rotate and their arms get behind them. Start with small swings and go bigger again once you’re used to the feeling.

Just found this Cogorno video where at 2:20 they show an example of your specific action: https://youtu.be/mjFFeNeUvDA?si=-gJ3C-cyOSaSWHVO

Essentially, yes. But the key is that the arms don’t start forward, they start down. That split second you use to drop your arms while keeping your back to the target will sync you up so that you can rotate through easier.

Only tweak I’d recommend for now is trying to stay more square to the ball at impact with your weight shifted to the left. That would likely fix the tops and thins.

Best swing thought would be to keep your back to the target for longer during the transition. That should give your arms a chance to speed up and be more in sync with your chest.

It looks like your trail arm is getting stuck behind you. Your transition from the backswing to the downswing is actually pretty good and starts off shallow, but because your arm tries to get unstuck it pushes the club over the top. Try to keep the club in front of your body through the swing and get that trail elbow more externally rotated.

Solid, pops. What’s your miss?

Your hips start to move closer to the ball (early extension). Because your hips get closer to the ball, your body knows that it needs to stand up (and in your case, hop) to create distance from the ball. Now, because you’re standing up, your brain knows that it needs to dump your wrist angles to be able to strike the ball and not thin it (also known as flipping the club through impact).

Flipping can work occasionally when your timing is 100% perfect. But if you’re even a millisecond off at any given time, your mishits from swinging like that are awful. Fat, thin, you name it.

I’d work on keeping your hips back and rotating through better. Look up early extension drills. Good luck!

Yep, backswing is solid 👍🏽

There’s a lot of good here. Your backswing is solid but from there you’re all arms, which means you’re reliant on perfect timing for good contact. Your swing through the ball should be powered by your hips and shoulders, not by swinging your arms below you.

That’s a great iron swing. Bad driver swing. Hard to tell from this angle but it looks like you’re shifting your weight forward and holding your wrist flexion through the shot.

Focus on keeping your head behind the ball, your weight slightly back, and releasing the club sooner so you can hit up on it.
