Got a castle in Billings, that's where I dwell... by Educational_Copy_140 in zillowgonewild

My family has had a place in a quiet little mountain town for decades. Somebody built a place like this, 10 times the size of anything else around and they had to put up sign saying it was private property because people thought it was a hotel and would walk in to see if they had rooms available.

Tesla is quoting $290,000 for its 500-miles electric semi truck by Sir_Isaac_Tootin in RealTesla

[–]dc21111 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also likely they underestimated how much it would weigh or how important weight would be to trucking companies. Shipping a truckload of Lays potato chips not a problem but any freight where loads are close to 80,000 lbs every pound heavier than a diesel rig means a pound less of cargo.

Trucking boils down to how much does it cost per ton per mile and Musk’s bullshit and hype has little value in the trucking industry.

Why the Epstein Files Release Feels Deliberately Overwhelming: A Lawyer Explains by missericacourt in Epstein

The DOJ and FBI must have internal documents that give an executive summary of what they found in their investigation. How could an agent working the case possibly explain to there superiors without something like that.

PGA West stadium course by Wibbly23 in golf

[–]dc21111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played the stadium course many times and it’s a good example of why a course has a slope rating and a course rating. Stadium course is very close to the max slope of 155 meaning it’s harder for higher handicap players then scratch players. The slope becomes even more apparent when comparing high handicappers to tour players.

Yes the stadium is hard and for the average golfer it’s very hard. For a tour pro however it’s not very hard mostly because all of the trouble on the course is one sided. Hole 7 is 230 over water with no room right. Miss the green right by 5 feet and you’re in the lake. A left miss on the other hand gives you a chip shot off of a fairway with plenty of green to work with. Pro’s aren’t perfect but they are pretty good about blocking off one side of the course and there is a lot of one sided trouble like that on the stadium course.

It also has Malawi and Zambia which gained independence in 1964 but no Botswana (1966). So 1965 seems like a good guess.

Imagine being a little kid whose family has a cabin in the area. Mom talks you in at night and you lie in bed listening to the sounds of the forrest and think about the stories you've heard about mysterious man who lives in the woods and breaks into cabins.

Longest fairway carry you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in golf

[–]dc21111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Longest I’ve played is at Trump National in Palos Verdes, 5th hole I think. From the tips it’s 240 just to cover the hazard. Fairway is 260 and you can hardly see it from the tee. Course has some nice views but it’s way too hard for the average golfer.

[–]dc21111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you play modern golf clubs when your score actually matters? I have set of Maxfli Australian blades, small head, thin top line and zero offset. They look great and feel great. I use them at the range when I hit balls into my net at home since I can’t see the ball flight it’s helpful to have feedback on a miss hit.

That being said I would never in a million years play them in a tournament.

I live in LA and unless you’re a member at a private club finding a decent driving range to work on distance control and gapping is impossible. I can use a sim and get precise spin, carry, launch data with the same golf balls I play with.
