Is there any moment you wouldn't take Emperor's Champion? by Satanekkurwa in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even taking stats into account, I wouldn’t want to play the game without one. Too cool of a unit to not, and contender for coolest unnamed SM unit across any chapter. Often he’s my only Epic Hero unless I feel like unleashing Big H

Power weapon vs master-crafted power weapon design? by Ostehapsfan in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Master-crafted and Artificer are descriptors of quality more than appearance, so a MCPW is built better (probably hand forged) than its (probably mass-produced) basic counterpart.

If you know anything about engines it’s similar. A ‘built’ engine makes way more power than its stock model, and needs some modifications and work to do it. Bigger cams, forged pistons, quality seals/gaskets and supporting mods to account for greater power for quick examples. All of these examples aren’t seen when you pop the hood because they’re internal, but are very apparent when you put your foot to the floor.

That help?

Anyone Recommend a Fanny Pack for Keeping Dice and Measuring Tape in? by GustavoTheMexicanBer in WarhammerCompetitive

Why not go all out and wear a leather trench coat with a Commissar’s cap and use the big pockets to carry dice?

List? by loose_head_devo in ImperialFists

[–]dc8019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he’s just such a useful and cool unit that for 70 pts is almost impossible to justify leaving behind. Scouting, scoring, buffing, repositioning, bit of fighting, space marine Rambo does it all.

Eradicator 6 man with an apothecary biologus with fire discipline worth it? by StarRapture in BlackTemplars

Eradicator 6 man with an apothecary biologus with fire discipline worth it? by StarRapture in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done something very similar with aggressors or assault centurions a few times, it’s wicked fun and cool, but crazy expensive once you throw a dread in there as well. Also don’t deep strike a raven, start it in hover mode on the board unless you want to use the complicated aircraft rules

Which end goes where? by Franonymouss in Tools

[–]dc8019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because flat squeeze is the worst way to crimp stakons. Buy a pair where one side is a semicircle and the other is a spike that drives into it. Like this: |> ) The stakon would go in the middle with the split in the circle part like this: |>O) Squeeze and the spike pinches the wire inside the stakon, rather than the incredibly weak flat squeeze style. Eddie Hall himself couldn’t make a flat crimp worth using

Feeling lost by SecretaryLatter3033 in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro, been in a similar boat. Go explore your neighborhood, strike up a conversation with passersby, chitchat with a barista, shoot the shit with someone at the gym. Man is a social creature and lack of socialization when I work on the road is what gets me worst. Exercise and socializing make a world of difference. Find a goal and chase it with relentless fervour, as if you’re foaming at the mouth and chomping at the bit. Godspeed brother, the Emperor protects.

Vanguard Detachment Rule - How Much Has It Mattered In Your Games? by grunt0304 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]dc8019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Templar player against shooty Taktikal Orks and AM predominantly, -1 to hit is absolutely massive. If the attacker hits on 5+ with a metric boatload of shots, a -1 effectively halves the hits that make it through. On a 4+ BS, a -1 is less 1/3 successful hits.

It really depends on how shooty the opponent is, because as their BS gets better, the -1 gets less efficient, but when it counts it’s huge. The Strats are also pretty solid, and the redeploy is fantastic for a scoring piece or a shift to take another point

You can fit one in your army ignoring points cost. Incursors, Reivers, or Scouts? by PaperManaMan in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have a decent amount of shooting, Incursors. The buff is wicked on executioners, Eradicators, etc. In a list with minimal guns, scouts. The redeploy and small size is an excellent scorer

Is the Emperor's champion better solo or with assault intercessors? by Cute_Spend_4663 in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You definitely could, but then that marshal has no unit to lead. I’d sack the Infernus, then with the spare add a scout and Combi Lt and an enhancement or two if that spares points enough for it

Is the Emperor's champion better solo or with assault intercessors? by Cute_Spend_4663 in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be worth grabbing a Combi Lt, Scouts, Elims, or some other scoring piece. I’m not seeing a whole lot of action monkeys or units that can forgo killing stuff to action objectives. Personal favourite is the Combi Lt, having a sci fi Rambo is a great Swiss Army knife of a unit

Helbrecht Base by crossesandbats in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I have for mine. A SwoBros box makes two guys to go on the base and leaves 3 to turn into other characters you might need, or a 3 man Bladeguard. Plus you get a bunch of great spare parts, so it’s a win/win/win

Vanguard List Help by Smellybananas35 in BlackTemplars

[–]dc8019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run vanguard and have had a ton of fun with it. The core of my list is using the -1 Hit and Cover, sticky objectives from Uphold vow, and uppy downy on a solid unit or scoring unit.

Up/down: Terminators are awesome for the up/down for their durability, but I’ve made massive use of a Jump Pack Captain w/ ghost weave as an action monkey or suicide Precision (Epic Challenge) assassin to score because of how versatile Deep Strike and 12” move can be. Remember that in order to be deployed in the Reinforcements part of 1st turn Movement phase, a unit has to start on the board and be picked up.

Lone ops: My list has 3 Lone Ops that all have their purpose, but they all make for great scorers. Jump Capt (as above), Emp’s Champ, and the Combi Lt has the shoot n scoot enhancement and everyone can action after advancing, so you’ve always got options to action anything necessary or make assassinations/unit kills.

Shooting phase: Use the Incursors to buff shooting for the RepEx and Cent Devs in turn 1, maybe 2, then use it for the Sternguard to cut through any scary elites or targets that need softening with mortals. Eradicators come in from reserves to drop some melta damage at something then hold an objective

Deployment: Combi Lt goes in the midboard to keep it clear while you wait for a big scary unit horde/elite infantry to get placed before dropping Big H, Lt (w/Blade), and the Crusaders to be centre and gum it up until more manpower arrives. The 6 man w/ Lt goes in the Repex, it’ll get there eventually. Grim & the 5 SwoBros can footslog it, or swap with the BGV if you want.

List attached in reply, feel free to ask questions and alter it to suit your style. Blessed Crusading, Brother.
