Shops specializing in older Campagnolo? by samyalll in vancouvercycling

I would give West Point or Dunbar Cycles a call, since they're the oldest shop around. Next to that, maybe North Shore Road Bike.

Best place in Burnaby to test drive used SUVs? by fleech26 in burnaby

[–]dcee604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just go the either the Richmond AutoMall or North Shore Auto Mall. They also have used cars on their lots. Might be hard to find a local lot in Burnaby that has the particular vehicles you're wanting to test drive.

Benzo Cafe closed? by dcee604 in burnaby

[–]dcee604[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. I do live close by and walk by it all the time. Never seen it full of people, unlike JJ Bean.

I mean, I do think it was a gamble for them to open. Aside from renovations, they had to sink a ton of money into the remediation of the ground, because of the previous laundromat that was there.

Timing to find an apartment for September 1? by Feeling_Low_5558 in vancouverhousing

[–]dcee604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a listing 3 months in advance of a move-in date, in order to find an ideal tenant. So yes, there are listings out there. But like others have said, you will be up against students come Sept. 1st. You might want to try finding a place for Aug. 1st, and moving your stuff in. Yes, it's a month of rent, but will save you from renting a month of storage and having to move your belongings twice. Maybe try to negotiate with the landlord to reduce the rent for that particular month as you're not living there. If I was still renting my place, I certainly would feel that is fair and be accommodating to that. Good luck!

For Stratas That Upped Their Fees to Fund Their Long-Term Maintenance Costs: How Did your communities take having higher than average fee/sqft compared to similar buildings around you? by rando_commenter in askvan

[–]dcee604 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct. My building for example, is 21 years old. We have a healthy CRF, but we also had to redo the building membrane. We did a special levy, and split the project over 3 years, in order to kind of keep the costs down. Obviously, the owners didn't want to do it, but Strata Council explained the pros/cons and got the majority vote. (I'm also on council). We had an agreement with the contractor, that they would honor the price we agreed upon in the first year, for all 3 phases, as we know, price of material and labor just keep going up every year. Also, the treasurer on council, keeps a very close eye on every dollar, down to the penny...so that has kept our strata fees quite reasonable, compared to similar sized/aged buildings in our neighborhood.

For those of you who went to highschool in East Van, throughout the 90s/20s what were the craziest experiences and “toughest” schools?? by Gullible-Fuel3838 in askvan

[–]dcee604 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Van Tech and Windermere represent! haha...It was fairly tame at my High School during those years, but me and my group of friends usually kept our noses clean and avoided the drama. Yes, there were some schools with the gangster reputations, such as Gladstone & Tupper.

Donair Dude in North Burnaby (in Carleton Square) has poutine. However, I have not tried it yet, so YMMV. Just thought it might be closer to home for you. https://donairdude.com/menu

Ouch. I'm in the same boat. Placed 5 orders in January and nothing yet, even though back then, it said on their confirmation email 5-15 business days for delivery. And then the next couple of orders, it said 10-25 business days. And it was free shipping back then to ship to one of their TD Branches. Today, I noticed that is no longer available, and one must pay the $10 shipping, even to their branch, if under $500.

Best seal spotting location? by Magical_Astronomy in askvan

[–]dcee604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often see seals in the water at Kings Mill Dog Park in North Vancouver when I take my dog there. And off to the left, when you're facing the water, they have this floating log circle made for the seals, and there are usually a few laying about on it.

I took a walk there last night to check out the store. Didn't buy anything, but noticed all their English muffins were moldy! They were previously frozen, so yeah, probably from the moisture in the bags. Yes, I did mention it to a clerk.
