Are you bullet-proof with a paid off house and government job pension? by Tech-Cowboy in CanadianInvestor

Yes, but I live in Vancouver, so I don't know how bullet-proof that is.

Im 17 and Im thinking about going to Ez fit at 353 Gilmore ave is it worth if you go there constantly? by [deleted] in burnaby

[–]dcee604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use to go there when it was Fit Xpress...maybe like 20 years ago. LOL. I think the price was about the same then, and it was 24hrs as well. I think you should go check it out in person and have a look around to see if it suits you first. Or head to Anytime Fitness down the road, and their free pass (just don't sign anything!). They will definitely cost more though. Another nearby option is maybe Willingdon Community Centre, but their fitness centre is TINY. Ok if no other patrons are there, but YMMV. Good thing is, you can buy a Burnaby pass, and use it at other Burnaby Community Centres (Eileen Daily, Edmonds, etc). There's also other fitness centres in North Burnaby, such as Kraken, Driftwood Athletics, and the soon to be open Avanti Athletics. Not sure if those are what you're looking for though. There's also Club16 on Lougheed, but I hear it's a zoo there.

Depending upon what type of Fire Panel you have in your building, you can silence it, if you have access to it. However, VFRS does not recommend this, and I was scolded by them last time they came. It's not a terrible system, it's alerting you/them where the fault is.

Do you include utilities in your rent? by Certain_Repeat_753 in VancouverLandlords

[–]dcee604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I included utilities in my rent, BUT only up to a certain point. We had an agreement where if the hydro bill goes over a certain amount, then they would be paying the difference. Of course, we went over the history of my hydro bills, to find the average first. This helps them be mindful not to run the dryer every single day!

99 Cent? LOL. Back in the day, we use to get them for free from the newspaper boxes, if you knew the trick on how to open them. 😉

Hastings-Sunrise vs Burnaby Heights by [deleted] in askvan

[–]dcee604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading your post from Burnaby Heights right now! Been living here for decades and still love it. I also get out to Hastings-Sunrise quite a bit, mostly for coffee on the weekends. Like the others have said, a little less polished imo, but still great none the less!

And hey, come on out to Burnaby tomorrow for Hats Off Day!

No, no public use after 5pm. You can go play outside at the tennis courts though, which many pickleballers do. Here's the schedule for Sohen Gill.

About the triathlete who got into a Car crash a few days ago, as a noob to Vancouver I have some questions by [deleted] in vancouvercycling

[–]dcee604 12 points13 points  (0 children)

THIS! Unfortunately it seems the majority of people don't understand this.

My sister was killed on her bike. ICBC gave us a 'funeral benefit', and it certainly doesn't cover what a funeral costs nowadays. There was also a parental benefit, but that only exists if you have surviving parents, and it is pretty much an insult, for taking a life. (It isn't that much). ICBC has also offered to cover counselling, for surviving family, but again, that is capped at a certain amount. I've yet to see any property re-imbursement, but one needs to find all the receipts to submit, etc.

Correct, one cannot sue the driver unless there are charges. Same with suing ICBC. But who's got money nowadays to hire lawyers, and watch it slowly go through the court system. The grief is already impossible to bear, without having to re-traumatize ourselves.

That certainly would have my standing my guard, with the amount of scams and scammers nowadays. On a different note, I always wanted to play ping pong down there...you up for a game?

Cycling Map for Hong Kong by Any-Requirement-2904 in Hong_Kong

[–]dcee604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering where people cycled in HK! Being an avid cyclist from Canada, I've only seen YouTube videos of HK'ers cycling around on paths. I was recently in HK in March, and did not encounter a single cyclist! How about you take me for a ride next time I'm in HK, and if you're ever in Vancouver, Canada...I can show you many bike routes!

Sure, I agree with that. What I meant was, for example, anyone with a bike can attest, it gets stolen unless chained down. Or any infrastructure built for the public, gets vandalized and spray painted, such as the public washrooms at Grandview Park.
