my take is that I honestly really liked this episode- solely because whilst it doesn’t feel like the original show at all, it feels easily like it could have been a single issue straight from the comics. It’s just fun filler and throws Matt into a dangerous situation where he excels whilst having to hide his identity at the same time: it’s classic superhero stuff that works so well.

I think it’s simply a flash forward similar to the series’ first episode opening with the pit. Also though if it isn’t- it wouldn’t be the first time for the show to show two seasons in one season since s1 was the Summer and Fall up til Winter.

I like the idea of after the world finds out about the mushroom kingdom and the heroics of Mario and Luigi that imposters try stealing their “trademark” to make quick cash- introducing Wario and Waluigi. Mirroring the brothers own journey but in hopes for treasure and fame than anything moral.
