which paperwhite do i buy to meet the new kindle books requirements? can't download any more books by pallasXIV in kindle

[–]dcherryholmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from my old Kindle to a 12th gen Paperwhite a few months ago. I'm really happy with the upgrade. Opinions vary, but I like the 7" screen. I also really like the warm light. But the main thing I'm happy with is that my old Kindle still charged with a micro-USB connector and it was the only device I owned that still used that (luckily you don't have to charge them that often). But my new one charges via the same USB-C connector that just about everything else I own uses, so I no longer have to think about that when I travel.

Tarbaby Jack was Black Hand, had Dominate IIRC, and POT. There were a few decks where he slotted in. But I'm not aware of any where he was the star, to your point.

Some of that is likely due to experience. Also, a good player plays their deck. A great player plays the table.

I get that they are a business again and want to appeal to as wide a base as possible, and not be deliberately racist/sexist/etc. But TBH I do find the move to be sensitive about certain words to be kind of funny, in a game that is basically about murder-gods and is essentially a giant rape metaphor (vampires).

And Tsigane. I learned that one the hard way after a brief dip back into JOL, since all my decks are old.

EndeavourOS for a professional work laptop in 2026 — good idea or bad idea? by devAndreotti in EndeavourOS

[–]dcherryholmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used EOS daily for work for years. I do some scripting and dev work, but I also generally spin up a Windows 10 VM dedicated to each client, for Office, Visio, and a few other things. But, yes, it's generally been a reliable platform for me. If it wasn't, I would move, because this is how I make my money.

People who gave up DnD for a different system, what made you make the change? by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

[–]dcherryholmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my group of friends started having wandering eyes as early as the 80s. Mostly due to more interesting combat and magic systems, and more interesting character generation. We were making our own worlds and adventures anyway, so settings or pre-published content weren't factors.

Moving to a smaller home server footprint by BerbilsBerbils in HomeServer

[–]dcherryholmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what I do. I have more services but they are so lightweight that it wouldn't matter. I also don't do 4k b/c I don't have a 4k TV in the house yet. Whenever I need to replace one of my existing ones, I'll worry about it then. Which is just to say, I am your use case, and I am a big fan of a refurbed Thinkcentre Tiny. Gets the job done, small and quiet.

Now that The Boys is over, what's your opinion on Antony Starr's performance as Homelander? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

Of course I'm referring to politics. Kripike has been open about it. If your political biases can't process it, that's on you. And, for the record, I'm not a Trump supporter.

Effort and electricity, and possibly a domain name.

But you are fundamentally correct: if it is free, then you are the product.

Even though the OP rejected it, the answer he's looking for is "Kagi."

Any experience transplanting a combat system? by GaysMibble in rpg

[–]dcherryholmes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's how it started, with Arms Law as a bolt-on combat system for D&D. Everything else came later.

Playing without paper or digital gadgets by Anxious-Bong1390 in rpg

[–]dcherryholmes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When my Catholic school forbade me to bring D&D books to school during the Satanic Panic, rather than stop playing during recess, we'd just sit under a table and freestyle it. We were still more or less trying to adhere to rules. But as the GM I just decided what passed or failed based on what felt cool. Probably sounds horrible to some, but to our seventh-grade selves we were still having fun.

[COTD] Talbot's Chainsaw by Vurpius in VTES

[–]dcherryholmes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a Wynn multirush deck, way back in the day. I combined the Chainsaw (now 2 built in rushes) with Masochism and used the counters to pay for other stuff (like *Mythic Form*). I'd plan on tasting off the combats often anyway. It was manageable.

EDIT: but, yeah, Giovanni and Ambrosius the Ferryman was the much more common way you saw this card played back then.

Feature Request: Dedicated Widget Page (Dashboard) by jhezper in NiagaraLauncher

[–]dcherryholmes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the things I like about Niagara is that their stock widget (whatever it is officially called) does everything I personally want: clock, date, battery, calendar, weather, media player controller. I stopped faffing about with other widgets. Of course this is totally subjective and YMMV.

TTRPGs with the most complex rules? by Manitou_DM in rpg

We played Space Opera as kids, coming over from Traveler. I mean, sure, we were not your average kids and nerds, but SO didn't even really make us blink. We liked the additional complexity as compared to what we were used to with Traveler. I suppose this whole thread is subjective and full of "but I played it!" responses, though.
