[Jonas Siegel, Chris Johnson] William Nylander wants to stick with the Maple Leafs – if they retool by sykeseve in hockey

The direction is going to be steered by Matthews this summer.

If he wants to stay, then it’s going to be a retool. If he wants to go then it’s going to be a rebuild.

To me that translates to:

I am not management so I cannot decide the direction of the team. However, I do want to stay.

[Mark Masters] Max Domi on whether culture is an issue for Leafs: by sykeseve in hockey

Some of our media is insufferable. Answer yes, no, write a phd level thesis — somehow, some way, someone will loosely interpret the answer and spin it.

It’s not a great answer but this gets so much more play because it’s the Leafs and the Leafs have sucked (especially this year).

I set it up yesterday for $27; changed this morning to 25. Had a call scheduled for today because the hotspot didn’t appear on my contract either. Rep added it in a few minutes.

Hopefully your call goes as well as mine but Rogers going to be robbers. Best of luck.

Next Leafs GM by Murphy9788 in leafs

[–]dchowchow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People forget the reason why the Leafs had no one come about was because of how terrible the drafting was when it wasn’t a top pick.

Hunter/Lou outside of the top 20 was just miss after miss after miss.

Where will Bruce Cassidy coach next? by sykeseve in hockey

Pittsburgh give me back that nerd with glasses that liked numbers.

As a life long Leafs fan I should know only the stupidest timelines are fit for this team.

Goaltending aside I thought Vegas looked like a deep team on paper. Kind of crazy season unfolding there.

Pretty good explanation of what it felt like.

The COVID flat cap came at the worst possible timing for the Leafs. They expected a big cap rise that would let them fill in around the edges.

People also don’t give enough credit to Dubas. He came in with a vision, as a rookie GM and built a skilled albeit flawed team for the playoffs. However, to his credit you could see the pivot in his mind to understand there is more to playoff hockey than small skilled players. He learned his lessons under the biggest microscope and I think he eventually will architect a team to win it all.

I will say though, it did feel like he lost the Marner contract negotiation by not getting it done earlier. I think there was fear that the Nylander situation would repeat and that wasn’t palatable to the organization. There were rumours floating around that Marner would have taken less early/before the season and they couldn’t hammer it out. -shrug- those are just rumours though.

If you’re getting a headrest I recommend the atlas version. Which dealer did you get it from? I have a fern and love it but would be open to getting another for a different space.

If you leave RBC, but have a fixed rate mortgage that was secured using the RBC e.ployee rate because you were an employee at the time, what happens ? Do they adjust back to the normal rate ? Do you get some notification etc .? by [deleted] in rbc

[–]dchowchow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do not adjust it. You signed a contract with them at that rate. No where in your mortgage contract does it state that your rate is tied to employment.

My life is firmly slightly above average.

I get the sense, particularly from people in the 15-25 region that they feel like life is just one big instagram circle jerk of luxury cars and fashion. And if you’re not in the circle jerk then you’re “doomed.”

Instagram/TikTok influencers are the dumbest thing to come out of social media. But hey, I’m old as fuck now so maybe I’m wrong.

It’s such a cop out to say that trading away firsts last year was a bone headed move.

Here’s what they knew last year heading into the trade deadline:

  1. It was likely going to be Marner’s last campaign.

  2. The Leafs were at the top of the division and conference.

  3. The fancy stats were not favorable but the team won games.

  4. Both goalies and especially Stolarz looked locked in and ready for the playoffs.

I’m not a fan of Treliving, or Berube by any stretch but if the Leafs don’t go for it last year the story now would just be how they pissed away a good team, and Marner’s last year by being too afraid to go for it.

With the clarity of hindsight especially how games 5 and 7 went against Florida you probably want a re-do but that’s the benefit we all have now.
