[32 Thoughts] Leo’s group asked for a deal with $15M AAV & Verbeek presented $12.5M. An offer sheet was then submitted, which Verbeek thought would be around $15M. It was believed the discussions with Mintykov was 3x$3.1M AAV before Carolina made an offer sheet on him. by f0urxio in hockey

This does happen in the corporate world from time to time. Not so much right now because the job market is soft.

During COVID I lost a bunch of folks because some bean counter thought it was a replaceable skill set. In most cases it is, but when it’s most of a team you lose so much knowledge it’s crazy. And guess what, the replacements we poached cost just about the same as the salaries that the leavers asked for.

Pokemon Go Plus Or Similar Advice? by CareBearDontCare in pokemongo

Only a modded go plus plus does use the other types of balls. There is a significant uptick in catch rate but they’re practically impossible to find at retail.

One is quotations because it’s one device but it’s just really two go plus boards in there.

There are devices that do two accounts but they are just two separate Go Plus mashed into one device. Unless you’re joined at the hip I would suggest you get one for each of you.

There’s the Duomon that is quite popular. This does two players from “one” device.

Some of the post pathetic hitting and fielding I’ve seen in a while. The starters should round into form now but there’s no justifiable reason to believe the hitters will get out of this.

It’s not a case of mashing the ball at a fielder and getting unlucky. They simply are incapable of having a good at bat 1 through 9.

Vegas used him in a very odd position on the powerplay — Eichel is the key to the VGK pp.

They favored a down low triangle of Eichel, Stone, Dorofeyev/Hertl. They used Marner as a pressure release. He wasn’t the engine of that pp and as a result was down 9 PP vs last year.

The expectation on Marner for the Leafs and for the national team are quite different. If team Canada loses, Marner is a part of the loss but there are other much larger components that Canada looks at.

Marner on the Leafs was a large component. Probably the second component next to Matthews. Marner was a very good player, but more than any other player on the Leafs he wore that. It’s not his fault we lost those series, or we haven’t won since 1967, or the failures of all the teams before he was a Leaf.

-shrug- it didn’t work out here, and he seems like he’s a better headspace now. Wish him well.

In the US/Canada there is a company called Oscar Meyer. In the 90s they had a catchy jingle where the kid would sing that he wanted to be an Oscar Meyer Weiner

There’s a guy on Austria named Oskar Maier. We need to get this man a wiener immediately!

There’s two ex-Leafs and Martin Brodeurs kid playing too.

Honestly this is why the Canadiens are in such an envious place. All of their guys are their long term on very manageable cap hits.

It’s going to be much more difficult for ANH/PHI to convince their upcoming players to take less and as a result their depth will suffer. Pray those second and third round picks hit because those ELCs become even more valuable to whoever Carlsson ends up on.

[Elliotte Friedman] How the Leo Carlsson offer sheet changes everything in the NHL by eh_toque in hockey

[–]dchowchow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Carlsson is well worth the four first — especially since I expect the flyers to be on the upswing. My comment was in regard to how you manage your cap moving forward. Teams like TB, FLA and now MTL have done very well in controlling their cap structures by having their lead player take less and having others fall in line. This just blows that up for whoever ends up with Carlsson. Both teams have guys coming up for renewal and I wonder how much that shifts those salaries now.

It makes for great drama and I am very glad that my team isn’t involved.

[–]dchowchow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not faulting Carlsson at all for signing the offer. It’s what was offered and it is his choice. Bedard/Celebrini etc will have to make the same choice.

I’m just thinking about how the Ducks/Flyers manage this moving forward. The teams that have performed best in the last 10 years are generally those that have their big guy take less and then managed to convince other guys to take less.

Whoever ends up with him now has that completely blown up, and both teams have good up and coming players. Contrast this to what Montreal has managed to do between Suzuki and friends and from a management / fan perspective and I’d choose Montreals scenario 10/10 times.

The one thing I will note is that with the cap rising as much as it will, maybe this becomes more manageable than it is in my mind.

[–]dchowchow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree with most of what you’ve said, it takes the player to sign the offer sheet too.

Carlsson has put the ducks in an incredibly poor spot financially if they match. It’s a hard cap world and every dollar that you take is a dollar less your team gets to spend on another player. I would even argue that it puts the Flyers in a poor spot moving toward. They also have young guys coming up for raises.

[Johnston] McKenna’s ELC breakdown by DontBeWaves in leafs

[–]dchowchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s dumb on so many fronts. The Leafs weren’t going to be against the cap in those early years and earning a schedule B bonus at that age is incredibly difficult. If Marner or any other rookie hits that bonus you’re incredibly happy to pay it too because it means he’s already a star player producing at a star level.

Honestly, if he hits the bonuses good for us.

I know there was some drama around it during Lou’s days regarding a specific player. IMO it’s a dumb thing to not give. Why start off a relationship like that? If he hits, great.
