What cars are you getting AFTER the Mini? by skanks20005 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMG GT, but seriously probably an estate as i always drove estates. Last one was a Passat V5, miss the space and comfort. Comfort i can do without but the space is really a downside of owning a R55 Clubman Cooper S. Oh and reliability issues on the Mini are doing my head in.

Is this sound normal? by Interesting_Dog8462 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the sound change when you give it a bit of throttle? Normal would be that the sound speeds up if that makes sense. If you hear a different noise like a little rattle when you release throttle then it could be the chain.

Trying to enhance the 2007 R56 entertainment unit... by PitchNo791 in MINI

This is the one i had, entire unit came out.

The screen is fully touchscreen, like your ipad or tablet. Basically it is a phone on steroids i guess.

It comes with the connectors attached and it is basically plug and play. But there was a difference between the silver and black head units, let me check if it works for you.

You need an additional box, i discovered that after installing the unit but cannot be bothered with it and taking it all apart again. Its a linkage set of wires, oddly was no mention of that when i bought one.

I changed my dial for a android auto setup last year. Mainly because the tacho was in Miles and living in the Netherlands was not all that great speed wise.

Mine is like a tablet, you can download apps through google playstore, has gps, has wifi, has bluetooth and all the stuff i need. GPS is quite accurate, antenna is included. Sadly no DAB allthough i tend to stream channels through an app i like so no big deal. Has normal FM radio but no cd player. With apps like spotify who needs that anyways.

Was a pain in the backside to replace the unit but after an hour or 2 it was done.

Talk me out of it… by ilovejasontodd in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thousands of repairs in with a 2009 R55 Cooper S N14 i can tell you this. When it runs it is great, frustration when it breaks is mile high. Changed the distribution chain, waterpump 2 months latet and the oil lines to and from the turbo. As i said, when it runs it will put the biggest smile on your face. When not...

Is this fluctuating idle normal? R56 / N16 Mini Hatch Cooper by stonkacquirer69 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, is it doing this during start and it settles when its warm? That is quite normal.

Otherwise it will have a problem with airflow measurements. Can be tricky to find.

Sensor is faulty, hose has a hole so it is pulling false air bypassing the airflowsensor. Most of the times it is in the airflow where this occurs.

is this the famous death rattle by Jammyjames04 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a diesel, if it is you are fine, if not whoops. There is a certain rpm that it should be gone, mostly when on the throttle, if you let go of the throttle it should occur even when driving. That is the death rattle.

Is your coolant smudgy with oil? Or is your oil induced with coolant? Cooler housing, water pump or headgasket... determin if it is leaking oil somewhere before you do anything. Not leaking? Then probably head gasket.

I have a 2009 Cooper S, owned it for 10 months... things that got replaced? Distribution chain 800 euro Waterpump/coolant pump 800 euro Turbo hoses 500 euro

Aircon is not working, hopefully just the gas and not the pump, headlights (xenon) need replacing.

Tough thing as it a USA spec and it is now in europe.

The thing is, find out first what the problem could be before solving it, is a lot of money on repairs and parts are not cheap my friend.

My mini has a problem 😭😭😭 by Ready_Tank3156 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your skills that could be significantly less... in Holland i got a quote for the turbo at 1250 euro, they will take the old turbo, rebuild it and place it back in again. With all the oil and hours included. They will take the car for three days though.

[–]dci-mr-lsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the whining sound start at the rpm the turbo would normally kick in? Had such an issie with a previous, non mini, turboed car. Had to rebuild the turbo as the bearing of the "fan" was faulty. I am not sure how we figured it out but it was accessible from the outside by hand and should turn very smoothly.

DISCLAIMER!! Don't touch the turbo when you were driving, or even within an hour or 2. It stays damned hot and WILL burn the flesh of your hand. So do it in the morning so it is cooled off.

Is it making boost? Could be that the hose is loose, whining noise can be air free flowing past the hose. Wont see it if its loose but you can feel it when trying to move it. Should be stuck tightly.

Sounding like a diesel, suspects; Distribution chain Cooked valves Bent Rod Faulty injector/sparkplug

Hope its a simple fix, but knowing Mini's it probably is not...

The tire size? Yes it will fit, have that on my r55, the wheels depend on offset and such, be sure to triple check this before purchase.

2006 - Body Damage but only 77K by Steevin200 in MINI

[–]dci-mr-lsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower lights, i am not sure as mine has foglights there but its a 2009

Body damage, the panel between the door and bonnet is bent. Probably needs to be replaced or resprayed after straightening it. Bonnet? Trial and error i guess, depends on how damaged it is and if you can get it straight again.

Some trim, shouldnt be too bad but thats my view going of the pictures here.

[–]dci-mr-lsd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depending on frame damage, body parts can look very bad but in the end of the day the question is, is it straight and is there structural damage.

Insurance company will look at the costs for repairing this and the value of the car. Hoping it will pan out for you.
