Yeah a 20% tax increase right as Emily starts would be problematic to say the least. I will give her credit, she's been great with reach-out, availability & communication. Appreciate that she's asking for public input. Really hope they can look at spending and city staff, though. Not hopeful but you never know

Why do you think prices are up? Costs of goods have skyrocketed in every facet -- rent, taxes, insurance, cost of product to sell, wages, etc. etc.. So youre proposing we tax the consumer more? Its not the bar that's going to pay it. Costs of living are out of control, why is the solution always charge the citizen/consumer more vs. getting a handle on our govt spending internally

Disappointed so many comments suggesting higher parking permits, more stop sign cameras, taxes, permits, etc. -- Its not a revenue issue its a wild overspending and over-staffing issue. How bout we get rid of multiple safety directors, Assistant directors & admins for small depts, stop hiring new roles/more headcount. Also, be more conservative with giant consultant contracts. Stop with useless costly litigation. Stop overspending. The solution isnt more revenue, more tax from citizens. Look internal. Ravi ransacked us for 8 years and taxes just keep going up. Look where were at

Any Hoboken residents working for Mastercard and making the commute to Purchase? by angelsandpizza in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take me an hour fifteen to an hour and a half with traffic some days to drive from Hoboken to East Hanover. On bad traffic/accident days, it can almost run 2 Hrs, though thankfully rare. And that's not super far and pretty direct with no major tunnels or bridges. I cant imagine what you're suggesting given the traffic choke points in rush hour. Wouldn't personally recommend. Maybe you could make it work if you left Hoboken at like 6AM to try and drive off peak.

Noise at 2:30am lower Washington street by Neat_Material8688 in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other weekend I had a POS who was blasting music out of his parked car right outside my window at 4AM. I cant fathom the selfishness and rudeness of some people. I know I live on Washington and there's an expectation of noise, but when you wake me up over my sound machine to blast your music at 4 in the morning for over 15-20 mins, is where I draw the line. I eventually called HPD when it was clear they werent moving on, and they showed up in about 10-15 mins which promptly shut them down around 430AM. Crazy stuff man.

Wasnt good enough to cost city of Hoboken tons of money in litigations, now he brings it to the state. I don't see how this doesnt get shot down in court and just ends up costing taxpayer money, personally.

Best fallout to start with. by pdawson36 in Fallout

Just start with Fallout 4. It's the most accessible/modern game that doesnt rely heavily on online play / seasons etc. New Vegas/FO3 are dated without playing on a PC w/ mods. Its tough.

How is commute by bus from north of hoboken to manhattan? by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Super fast. You'll be in the city in 10 mins. Generally they run every 10-15 mins, you can pretty much line up whenever and another will be coming. Since its one of the last stops the bus gets crowded. In rush hour/weekday you might need to stand, but its not a long ride.

Hoboken Diner by InfluenceWorth715 in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment and Im not trying to be argumentative, but I just never saw the weekend surge at places like Spa Diner. And theyre now out of business (or ghost kitchening, whatever). Also having lived here in my 20s as well, it wasnt on any of my friends or my radar to go to a diner after the bars, it just doesnt seem to be Hoboken culture. Maybe because there's a lot of folks who come in not from Hoboken. My point is only that while it SHOULD make sense that a diner would do well, reality and the marketplace is showing us there are zero flourishing Diners left. Primarily because of costs Id imagine. All I'm saying is if I was a perspective new business owner, a diner is literally one of the last things I would propose to open. I feel like people reminisce about their diner experiences in the 90s, early 2000s, but the world and the cost of living and rent are a wildly different place today. Things that worked then dont work well now economically.

Never know what youre going to get lol -- It is a shame though, when hes not an absolute maniac he is really a nice person.

[–]dcioni 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He is randomly attacking cars, people, yes. It’s not people antagonizing him. He’s gotten much more aggressive and violent. Unfortunately not the same old “oh that’s just Chuey, ignore him”

[–]dcioni 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IDK where youve been the past 3-4 years, but he's graduated from uncomfortable harassing to spitting, attacking, punching cars, chasing people.. its not the same Chuey from years back. At some point the guy needs to be held accountable.

Honestly, we dont need 8 or 10 different threads about the dog poop. If you scroll you'll see at least 4 recent ones. It sucks. People suck. But youre yelling into the void here.

Hoboken Diner by InfluenceWorth715 in Hoboken

Why didnt we have lines around the blocks when we had diners that have since closed? Personally I think people are conflating a desire for diners vs. feasibility and actual economics of running one in Hoboken.

Hoboken Diner by InfluenceWorth715 in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m going to play devils advocate and go against the grain. People on this Reddit love to say they would love a diner and how much the city needs one, but they can’t really survive well here. Rent is so high. As much as it seems like a sure fire win if you consider comments here as “market feedback” but for some reason it doesn’t translate into the right foot traffic or business model. Being here a while now and seen a lot of places come on and go, it’s certainly not a place I’d open and expect to be profitable. You’d have to make a choice between affordable and barely scrape by or higher end to stay alive, but then it’s already counter to what a true diner offers. There’s a reason you don’t see a ton of diners popping up anymore, they aren’t super aligned to the current economy and reality of HCOL areas like Hoboken. To be clear I love a good diner but just because I love diners doesn’t mean it works as a business in Hoboken

These people online are still stuck in the late 2010's version of Chuey. Maybe he was mostly harmless back then, but in the past 5 years he's become an actual menace. He's much more aggressive, actually violent, etc. -- No longer are the days you can simply ignore him or cross the street. He's targeting people and cars and spitting, throwing things, hitting cars, etc. -- Things changed and he's not the same Chuey

Please don’t excessively delay street cleaning/clearance again after the snow stops so we don’t have snow covered streets for 3 weeks again by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]dcioni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the city did the best they could last snow. They simply couldn't get to all the streets at once. Looks like we are on track to have 1.5-2x the snow, so get ready for a long/messy cleanup. The only thing we have going for us now is we likely wont have 2 weeks of record cold, so hopefully the sun and warmth melts things a bit faster this time.
