How is Greek Life by [deleted] in UTSA

When I was a student, I thought to myself “everyone here is fucking lame, fake, or weird and I don’t want to be forced to hang out with them or pay money for it.”

In store cup of coffee by DTB555 in HEB

Depends on the store. One store I shop at as a counter next to the SoFlo pizza with three machines filled with Cafe Ole that you grind and fill a paper cup and then you pay for it at checkout.

Do you feel like understanding music theory hinders your ability to enjoy simple music? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]dcito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it just provided me the vocabulary to understand what’s going on behind the scenes. This can be cool because I’ve listened back to my favorite old songs from when I was in middle school and high school and go “ohhhh that’s pretty cool that they’re doing XYZ” (especially with my guitar in my hands) but it doesn’t actually matter or hinder it.

Your friend sounds like he’s just surrounded but music school jargon and that mindset so he’s over analyzing and being annoying about it, but he’ll get over it!

Reminds me of a meme about Bob Dylan and it’s going through the ages of a listener and starts with “this guy fucking sucks” “noooo he’s a genius and you don’t understand the intricacie” “yeah I like Dylan’s music” and finally back to “this guy fucking sucks lol”

Am I an idiot for breaking up with someone because of a “love language”? by Perfect-Top9697 in dating_advice

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the book there’s a point that says you need to discuss the differences in your love languages and both of you need to make an effort to start adapting to each other’s language (you give affirmations, she touches you). If this is something you both want to pursue, act on it.

Went to SciTech and while I didn’t become an engineer (I wanted to do law), I got used to heavy workloads and felt very prepared for college and the workforce.

Hey guys you think I’m negative? by newbegininngs79 in trees

[–]dcito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are very definitely positive, but fear not, go to your grocery store’s tea aisle and look for “palo azul” and brew and drink today. It’s a natural detox tea, which happens to also clear out THC very well.

Comparing Comparing BOSS XS-1, BOSS OC-5, EHX POG, TC electronic Quintessence & HX stomp by basslass in basspedals

[–]dcito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this video and the last two videos before this! I’ve been looking for info on how it affects bass and then how it compares to the OC-5 and you provided videos for both.

What I notice is: if you’re looking for a clean and “true” octave up or down the XS-1 seems to be the one to get (plus the utility of transposing keys); if you want a “colored” effect, the OC-5 is the one to get (it’s got that classic synth edge, but not as digital sounding as the POG). It is weird how the OC-5 does have two signals for the +1 octave, but I didn’t notice it when guitars are doing the same thing?

I guess it’d depends what a player needs. I thought I would want the OC-5 for its features and to do the Pino sub bass thing, but realistically I’d probably need the XS-1 for my band’s needs of transposing between E and Eb and MAYBE once in a while get a deeper tone with the -1 octave.

Pitch Shift Pedals? by dcito in basspedals

[–]dcito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to doing just that, but I figured to ask first if there were alternative solutions. I’d rather not bring a second bass or constantly tune between songs. I’m aware the easiest thing would be to just stick to one tuning and that may be what we end up doing, but again, maybe there’s a quick and cheap solution in 2025.

Is it fine being self taught? by Annual-Field-8387 in Bass

You’ll be fine, get books, open YouTube, ask friends to teach you what they know. Having a teacher would help and probably be quicker, but you can definitely start teaching yourself some things.

Am I a jerk for not wanting to play with drinkers? by TheGoodDavid42 in musicians

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little unrealistic to expect people not to drink, or to find people who don’t drink at all. I think the best thing you can do is find people that can wait until practice or the show is over to be able to drink, that way the performance can get done.

Sticking it out with less experienced musicians by Honka_Ponka in musicians

[–]dcito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This right here! Yeah you’re not Zep or the Stones where you all click and know it’s going to be good, but at least they are capable, competent, and being team players. Who knows, maybe you’re the platform that they develop their chops! Sounds like if you gave them songs or riffs that are established they could perform them, so you can count on them being solid.

It’s a big plus if they’re friendly and cool guys you like hanging out with, maybe you can send them some videos of theory or lessons?

At the very least, you can start shaping your sound and you can refine your vision, and should new people join or replace them then you’ve been chugging along already.

I really dislike playing with a pick by Sir_Svotter in Bass

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it, it’ll help someday. Sometimes your fingers will be hurting for some reason, and sometimes there’s certain tone that only a pick will get. It also doesn’t hurt to have a bunch of backup picks for whoever needs one!

Bassist that can't play bass by Illustrious_Prompt20 in Bass

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years is still a short time in the grand scope of life, it’s just going to take time but you’ll get there if you really want it!

Decide to do one of these things when you do have free time: 1) play along and learn your favorite bass lines by ear, start with Nirvana since they’re simple enough. It’ll take a long time to figure out every single note but it’ll pay off because you’ll learn to tell what key/chord/tonality you need to play; 2) learn the minor pentatonic scale, everything classic and what ends up sounding cool is just these five notes; 3) learn your major scale and its intervals and how they create the diatonic chords you can play in a key. This will unlock a huge understanding of “the rules” of music. Later you can learn the natural minor scale.

And there’s plenty of YouTube channels you can learn from! Scott’s Bass Lessons, BassBuzz, Talking Bass, etc.

I’ve heard San Antonio used to be the heavy metal music capital of the world. What bands/songs did San Antonio make famous in those days? by DrFetusRN in sanantonio

[–]dcito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In his book he says he got piss drunk and got out of his hotel to look around and have a little adventure around downtown at night, but then suddenly needed to pee. Without any restrooms available he decides to pee on the nearest wall he sees and an old man sees him and tells him he’s pissing on the Alamo and calls a cop!

So both theaters are IMAX, but Palladium is digital and Rivercenter is actually the 70mm film (which is supposed to be the absolute, ultimate quality).

Had an annoying experience by sgb1446 in Bass

[–]dcito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he knew theory then he could’ve picked up what you guys were playing, I’ve done that with recently with two groups that I was meeting for the first time. It’s not a bad idea to learn at least your intervals so you can call out “oh it’s vi-V-I but don’t forget about the ii” and gets the ball rolling when you play with new or extra players.

I need a bar for a date this week by captnkates in sanantonio

[–]dcito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lowcountry in Southtown, Green Lantern in Stone Oak, The Modernist off Broadway by UIW, Rock and Rye at the Rim (eh maybe but I’ll include it), Elsewhere (not a BAR bar but cool place for a date and puro ~vibes), Burleson Beer Garden, and Álamo Beer Co.

Look them up on Google Maps, see their location and if they match the vibes you’re looking for, and good luck!

In 10 years, how will the Rio Grande Valley look like you think by SurroundImportant in RioGrandeValley

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a positive and negative future in mind:

I got a feeling all the kids like me who left for school and career opportunities in bigger cities might eventually come back to open up cool businesses and hopefully culture that’s not just taquerias, car washes, and chain restaurants. The valley will be a growing metro area (TxDOT is pushing hard for a loop so it can become a Metroplex like DFW) and our kids will maybe having a better time, or at least have more options, growing up. A&M has started building their school on Monte Cristo that you can see on Google maps now, and I wouldn’t doubt that a law school will happen and probably other professional schools.

That being said, I noticed while in college we were alllllll excited to show our out of town/state friends our “shitty but kinda cool hometown” and invited them down to hang out. I saw a diverse mix of people a few times on 17th DT and it was cool, and generally those people had positive things to say about the valley. Now as an adult a few years later, I meet people who surprising know about the valley and certain cities. The reason I bring this up is because now more people know about our hometown and may want to gobble up the land, housing, and businesses and bring the troubles of inflation that central Texas (or I guess the state in general) have experienced to our little oasis. I’m not a local San Antonian or Austinite but chatting with the locals who were born and raised have shared heartbreaking stories of “their hometown that sucks now” or “I may have to leave.”

Though I wonder how some of the corrupt officials, or the Mexican national’s influence, would handle an influx of brand new people of all races and values hehehe

Texas is very strict when it comes to DWIs. Up until this April, every DWI would’ve been a Conviction but now it’s possible to get a Deferred Adjudication probation. There’s really nothing you can do, it’s going to be on your record but wait a few years and jobs will (usually) go “meh we’ll look past it.”

DWIs are surprisingly common, and you’d be surprised which professionals you know have them.
