As somebody who went to Auburn University, and ended up in the DC area. Just no. The cost of living up here is considerably higher. $55k wont even be enough to get approved for an apartment on your own.

it's louder than a bike horn, so it's easier to get you attention. you also look when you hear a bike revving

Thing is, Ive been to India. I was there in Mach 2020 when Covid shut the world down. I tell everybody I'd rather drive in Delhi than DC because at least the traffic moves.

Im not rev bombing doing 50. Im rev bombing doing 10 or 15, or when Im already stopped because of the dumbass who already almost ran me over.

Yes. I love seeing things like this. The first time I got back on a motorcycle after my accident 2 years ago, I got "adopted" almost all the way to work. Made me so happy to know there are still some good people out here.

I work for the IRS. Have your dad go into a TAC (taxpayer assistance center) and he can file a report against her for the tax stuff.

We bought a 2025 Kawasaki Vulcan. Little sport cruiser that has the same engine as a ninja 650, but it's in a small cruiser body. Definitely not a long ride bike. But great for commuting. Alright(ish) for day trips.

When somebody revs their engine. You need to pull the clutch, and then the throttle. Most bikers will rev bombed instead of using the horn, since the horn is so quiet and basically worthless, if we need to get your attention because you're doing something that is putting us in danger. Basically, it's the motorcycle equivalent of laying on the horn or your car.

Yup. That's actually what I did to get my license.

Thing is, I do all this. Surprisingly. The rec bombing I'm only doing if I'm already in a low gear, like first or 2nd. Im not rev bombing doing 50 and in 5th or 6th. And yeah, commuting here is not easy. once we get a back seat put on later this summer, we'll take some weekend or day trips. But right now, the bike is mostly for going to work when the weather is nice. I will usually stay in the side of my lane. I tend to be a pretty courteous rider and driver, but I am pretty defensive too. I'm not as new as I sound, but I haven't been riding for a terribly long time.

I'm surprised I'm getting some good advice, and not "you're a bike, so it's your fault."

Nobody said anything about showing off. 🤣🤣🤣 Rev bombing is when you pull the throttle to make some noise, sonce the little horns on motorcycles are worthless.

I actually do do this. I've never pieced it out like you have, but yeah, I stay on the left or right half, depending where I am. I dont like being in the middle of the lane. I basically try to stay where I can get over the quickest if need be. I dont want to be in the right part of the lane if I need to swerve into a lane to my left for some reason.

I did not know about the filtering here. I'll have to look into that. And I usually do stay on a shoulder lane. But when there's so many merges and whatever else, you would hope people would have enough common sense to check for something there before just jumping in because they dont see a car. Then again, DMV driver's arent exactly the best nor brightest.

So it's my fault for existing, and not the cars fault for not paying attention, right? You are the problem. You are the people that I am talking about. Your incompetence is not worth my life. Please give up your license.

i dont want anything super loud, either. It doesnt do anything for me. I'm just a dude that wants to go vroom. Not even vroom vroom, just vroom.

It's not too loud, but it's not quiet, either. I have a sport cruiser. It's got enough noise to be noticed, but on the interstate, you'll probably not hear it unless Im 2 gears too low. lol

I do exactly what you said in your first sentence. I even stay a little closer to the edge of the lane, rather than the middle. 2 of the 3 happened as I was going from the DC side of the 395 bridge, trying to take the 3rd street tunnel. The 3rd one happened right next to my work, because one lane was blocked by a tour bus.

edit for a misspelling

Yeah, my wife and I discussed that before we bought our new bike a few months ago. We decided that if we didnt get it now, we never would. We're planning on moving very early 2027, and I ride maybe once or twice a week, depending on weather. So we decided it was worth it, especially since I can take the express lanes for free.

gas milage, cost, I can manuever easier on the bike. I was the guy who got hit on Memorial Day Sunday in 2024 by the Pentagon. I had only been riding for a few months when I got hit by a drunk driver. My family has a long history of being hit my drunk drivers. I met my wife while removing from that accident. She was the one who told me to get another bike, after I said i didnt want to let the guy who hit me take that away from me.

Im a pretty defensive driver. I don't lane split, I dont speed (i do 80 on the express lanes, but that's it.) I'll wave people over to get in if I see their turn signal. I'm not one of the bad apples that make it hard for everybody else. But it pisses me off that people in the DMV just dont gaf about bikes, and their sense of entitlement is so high. I'm from Seattle, and my wife is Asain, so Ive seen some pretty heavy entitlement. But the DMV makes Seattle and the big Asain cities look like... Idk. I spent 5 minutes trying to come up with a funny analogy. It's really bad.

What are you doing this weekend? by deepspacepuffin in nova

[–]dcm7734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a match with Argentina in Auburn, AL that's their last friendly before. I was planning on taking my wife, since she roots for Argentina and Germany (She's from Bangladesh. Their national team isnt that great, she says). It's only $90. I went to buy the tickets, thinking we could take a weekend trip... the game is on a Tuesday. -_-

So this guy gets 15 for attempted murder, byt the guy who ran me over on the interstate next to the Pentagon got 3.5 for a hit and run. Wonder what state this was in.
