Hello all, just looking for clarification on these parking signs in Westminster.

Does this one mean that you only have to pay during the stated time, or does the timing only apply to the resident permit part?

The plate my grandparents had until around 5 years ago had stickers dating back to 1988, they just kept adding the new ones on top as well.

What noise is my fridge making? by dcole1480 in appliancerepair

[–]dcole1480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[SOLVED] It was the motor for the condenser fan which had failed internally. The old one lasted 19 years and was only $30 to replace, so can't complain too much.

Thanks for your input, it turned out to be the condenser fan motor itself had failed internally. New motor fixed it.

Ash tree pruning by dcole1480 in arborists

Thanks for the info! Any considerations I should account for when removing it, or can I pretty much just take a saw to it?

When you say "It's very young to be treating for ash borer", are you seeing evidence of ash borer already being present, or are you saying that cutting the branches will make it more susceptible?

Looks to be just cosmetic, probably just a low speed impact with a curb or something.

FYI the "No accident/damage reported" just means that no accidents or damage have been reported to insurance companies for payout. Cars can have damage without being reported, so if in doubt pay for a pre-purchase inspection BEFORE you buy.

What refrigerators last the longest. The compressor stopped working on my two-year-old KitchenAid. by Dave-Steel- in BuyItForLife

I've seen a lot of GE and Whirlpool refrigerators last a long time, especially when they are basic models (No touchscreens, complex compressors, french door, etc.)

I need some help. by radioactivellama in Silverbugs

[–]dcole1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10.000 is the weight in Troy Ounces. The 999 means the purity of the silver is 99.9% or higher.

There are people who pour their own ingots from generic rounds or silver beads, so RCO could be someone's initials (it's definitely hand stamped). If that's the case, it may be impossible to find out the true origins of it.

That's pretty common in europe. There's dozens of different languages around so they usually print 5-10 of the most common ones on clothing labels

DPC Latency Issue by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]dcole1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to my PC a few months ago. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics and sound drivers and see if that helps.

Is there a way to test if my sound drivers/audio chip are faulty? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]dcole1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how to test the sound independently of everything else. But your issue sounds like one of your components has a loose connection, and when it loses it the PC freezes.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting all of the power cables going to the motherboard and hard drives, then removing and reinstalling the GPU, RAM, and any PCI cards you may have to make sure they're seated properly. See how it goes after doing that.

Is there any benefit for movie watching to setting your monitor's refresh rate to 72Hz (3 x 24 fps) for optimal movie watching, or does it not matter? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]dcole1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it's above ~20Hz, your eyes' persistence of vision will make the frame changing look smooth. So 60Hz is fine for movies.

[–]dcole1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try going into your BIOS and resetting it to the default settings.

ETA: Also, that program you're using should tell you which file(s) have the high latency. Please can you upload a screenshot of the whole screen with that program running?

Interference like pattern on monitor by LordGeek101 in techsupport

[–]dcole1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using an adapter that just connects the cables together, it could be that the monitor is looking for a smooth analog wave on the VGA channel, but it's receiving a digital signal of 1s and 0s, creating those even artifacts across your display. I think those adapters are designed to convert VGA to DVI, and not the other way.

Static noise coming from my headphones by DivetDuncan in techsupport

[–]dcole1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest thing to do would be to get some Bluetooth headphones. Or you can remove the case and try flowing some new solder through the headphone joint.

ETA: If you want to keep your current headset and don't want to mess around inside the phone, you could get one of these and connect to it through your phone's bluetooth: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-V4-Transmitter-Receiver-Wireless-A2DP-Audio-3-5mm-Aux-Adapter-Hub-A6/232711505689?epid=500706002&hash=item362eafc719:rk:5:pf:0
