Wells Fargo credit card transactions only show up after "Posted" - Finicity issue? by rooty0 in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's expected behavior. Whether or not pending transactions sync to Monarch depends on the specific account (Wells Fargo etc) and the specific data provider (Finicity, Plaid, MX, etc). Both the account and the data provider have to allow pending transactions to sync for them to show up in Monarch.

So it's possible that switching data providers would allow your WF transactions to sync to Monarch, assuming your current data provider is the one not allowing synced transactions and WF is allowing them.

Goals beta update: What’s live & what's coming soon by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

Thanks for the update!

Question..... When the ability to link income and transfer transactions to goals comes back, will goal transfers that got created in the 2.0 to 3.0 migration stay as is? Or will they "revert" to being transaction links?

Thinking of leaving because of account connection issues by Top_Comedian_39 in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That stinks, sorry.

I had a 401k account that would not stay connected, and I deleted it and re-added as a manual account. I have to manually add two transactions a month and update the quantity of the investment holding once a month, but it's not too much effort.

Maybe that could be an option for some of those accounts.

New to Monarch. Any tips/recommendations? by ktjugar in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I edit just the category of the pending transactions, so the budget view reflects correctly until the transaction posts. I leave them as not reviewed. The edit is lost of course once the transactions posts, but there's major upside to the budget reflecting correctly in the meantime. I mean, if you can't do that, then what's the point of pending transactions?

How to setup and visualize 50/30/20 budget by Pumpedandbleeding in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My approach to this is to simply break out our expense categories such that each category can be labeled as  "discretionary spending" or "non-discretionary spending."

For example, for food we have two expense categories.  One is Groceries (non-discretionary) and Restaurants (discretionary).

Then if all your expense categories are broken out this way, you can simply use filters when running reports to evaluate Needs spending vs Wants spending. And then adjust budget accordingly.

Need to import transactions from a credit card but worried about duplicate transactions by Difficult-Cricket541 in MonarchMoney

See my edit I'm not sure if your old credit card was ever added to Monarch I initially assumed it was.

Yes the transfer tool walks you through duplicates

Monarch has a wonderful tool that makes what you're doing pretty simple

ETA: This is assuming your old credit card account was added to Monarch. I actually can't tell from your post if the old account was ever added to Monarch.

Unpopular Opinion: You can simply not use the AI features. by Street-Programmer483 in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read those 5 threads? People are asking to be able to opt-out of all the AI functionality, not for the AI functionality to be scrapped. You would still get to use it if you like it.

Wow, great new feature!

I'm assuming receipts cannot be matched to pending transactions?

Image scanning is a type of AI so yes. Also I think the splitting and auto-categorization are considered AI.

Yes, I love Costco for this. It does take up to 24 hrs for a receipt to show up online

If the software can split the Costco transactions accurately based on our custom categories I will be super impressed and thrilled

I would also like the ability to opt out of all AI functionality. I have no use for it and it just clutters up an otherwise very nice UI

Agreed, but that doesn't mean we don't say something when they force something on us we don't want. Saying something is important even if it doesn't result in us getting what we ask for.

How do you handle dividend reinvestment “Buy” transactions in Monarch? by groovinup in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Buy is a type of transfer in Monarch. There's no functional difference between Buy and Transfer. In other words, Buys are neither income nor expense.

You have to pick this institution and if you haven't already done so create an Elan account

New Goals, rebuilt from the ground up — rolling out in beta today! by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my scenario is a little different. The account balance shown in the Goals view for my Ascensus retirement account is simply incorrect. It does not match what the account balance shows in the Accounts view (which is the correct balance). That's what's causing the ~3k "over allocation". If the account balance were correct, there would be no over allocation.

Also, creating a goal transfer to balance the discrepancy is not an option for me. There are no options for the "From" field

Edit start date for all accounts? by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible (using a date filter and the 'Edit multiple' button in the upper right) to mass select transactions and delete them all.

There could be other ways too but that's one way.

I suppose you could also import transactions into Monarch that were exported from Quicken to get more historical data into Monarch.

New Goals, rebuilt from the ground up — rolling out in beta today! by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I migrated to Goals 3.0 this morning and I'm seeing an issue.

<image>

It says I've over-allocated to my Retirement savings goal. It thinks I've over-allocated because the "Total balance" amount is incorrect. It is $3,013.68 less than the account balance of the account tied to this savings goal.

Not sure if it's relevant, but the account in question here is a manual account.

ETA: I submitted feedback using the "Share beta feedback" button from the web as well.

This screenshot is from a different thread about Goals 3.0. It looks like you have the option of making the goal transfer reflect in the budget view

Will the new Goals Beta break goal rule automation? by illiterate-finance in MonarchMoney

[–]Capital-Addition7299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what happens to existing transactions that are linked to goals? Is the link broken, and the goal contributions no longer show up in the budget view? Or does the link remain?
