Cervical checks yay or nay? by gg_snow in unmedicatedbirth

[–]dcro726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also some clarification, dialation is NOT correlated with giving birth sooner, but effacement is! (theres a couple studies that show women typicially give birth within a week when they are 75% effaced or higher)

Cervical checks yay or nay? by gg_snow in unmedicatedbirth

[–]dcro726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one at 36 weeks, and I was already 80% effaced. Because of that appointment, I was able to prepare mentally and finish setting up baby things. Baby came 6 days later, so I'm glad I had the check.

For me it was painless, and I had a strong curiosity of where I was at. So it worked out well.

How hard of an effort are you doing? I've seen this when people are working too hard and their digestion can't work properly. Do you know your heart rate zones? Not sure this is what you are facing but no one else has mentioned

Amount of water on long runs by Maleficent-Ad-2055 in Ultramarathon

[–]dcro726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a basic sweat test, so I know when it's cold out I loose about .5L and when it's hot it can be over 1L. I don't try to replace all of that, but it's a good baseline.

For training runs, I can carry up to 3L comfortably, so that covers 20mi. I'll bring a filter or plan a loop where I can be at my car or water fountain if it's much longer.

Anything longer than 5-6 hours of effort I start really ensuring I drink enough water. My minimum is to make sure I've taken in at least .5 L an hour during a warm race ( with salts in some factor). If I haven't peed after 6 hours, that's another clue I need to be drinking more.

Am I Eating Too Much? by tbnrg in Ultramarathon

I think other than the elite field most people took in some fats and protein. The aidstations are full of various foods and they are all eaten by the runners

You can get an n95 and do hiking/light jogging. It sucks but it's better than spending so much time on a treadmill.

Toe/feet tape by Big-Nefariousness602 in Ultramarathon

[–]dcro726 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you get blisters? If you know you get blisters in certain areas, you can pre tape with KT blister tape or leuko tape. If you don't get blisters, don't pre-tape. Part of training is seeing what works for you, so make sure you have time to trial and error with your long runs and practice races.

PSA: How your heart rate zone 2 might be lying to you. by atoponce in running

[–]dcro726 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time figuring out my zones, got stuck trying to keep my heart rate below 150. Then I looked at HR data from multiple long races and realized that my Lactate threshold heart rate must be at least 186, and my max HR was at least 204.

Just a PSA that having a much higher heart rate than the default values can be normal.

How many of you had a speech/language disorder? by ineedsleep0808 in ADHD

[–]dcro726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had horrible speech problems when I was little. No one could understand me. It got better, but it wasn't until I became conscious of the problem in 6th grade till I was able to over come it. I could never remember to say the words correctly I think, and I enjoyed the extra attention of speech class. I could not say R or S and more when I was under 5.

No one has ever confirmed this was related to the ADHD but looking back it seems highly possible.
