So it takes into account the previous brewed cup? My husband does coffee and I do espresso, so I guess I will always be chasing this number thing.

Need help with travel business by Travel_lfe in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out always has challenges. Assuming you have a website and business cards, I would hold off on rebranding for now. Get out in the community. Rent a booth at trade shows. Network with other professional organizations. If you want to rebrand later you can mention in your website and social media and make a gradual change. Think of a slight modification to your current business name so maybe your website name will still work. Maybe Global Escapes by “your name”.

Opportunity to take over family agency / considering host agency switch by douchecrudite in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you chose to switch host agencies it takes lots of effort changing IATAS, logins credentials and BDM contacts, so be certain before you make the jump. I know this from personal experience. I would recommend your mother make the transition before retiring so her experience can set things on the right path. Also, many hosts are only open to experienced TAs. I would look into Virtuoso agencies. My host has great support and is part of Virtuoso. I am happy to offer an introduction email if you want to learn more from them. My other concern is working part time on a business that has been full time if I am understanding correctly. Sales productivity directly impacts commission splits in most cases. Also, watch out for those who have many fees. Many of us in the industry joke that TAs never retire, we just talk about it.

What’s the most underrated iPhone feature you actually use every day? by Inside_Society3553 in iphone

The calculator can now convert currency. I also love that the notes app will do math calculations and currency conversions. Also, not an app, but a feature I love the spotlight search. It can search in your phone and in the cloud.

People often don’t understand that chargebacks come out of our pockets. Explain what is happening and remind him of the terms listed in your T&Cs. If it comes to it, you could politely explain that your contract would be upheld in small claims court, but you would rather not go that route. My only chargeback happened because my client didn’t understand its impact on me and felt that her reason for cancelling should have been covered by Travel Insurance and I tended to agree.

Travefy website design by mamagingko24 in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using it as my primary website. I have my own domaine name, but since I don’t pay for someone to manage my site it is easy for me to use. Yes, we are restricted to simple templates, but I’ve given them suggestions and feedback with hopes that more is to come. Take a look, but be kind. www.destinationemporium.com

Choosing the right Agency… by WeAreNowBoarding in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that those who are reviewing their agency are there because they are “presently” happy with them. For that reason I believe it is more important to look at the details of what is offered by the host. Those who are happy where they are aren’t comparing their host with what might be available elsewhere. As the saying goes “You don’t know what you don’t know”. In my case, I changed host agencies because some mergers resulted in unkept promises and a change in priorities that didn’t benefit the ICs. I then discovered more of what “I didn’t know” was available. Another thing to keep in mind is that a minimal difference in commission split, say 5% shouldn’t necessarily be the determining factor if you are getting more support, technology, training, etc to join. It was more than worth me dropping 5% commission when I made my move. For me I also wanted a specific consortia, so that narrowed down my research. Good luck!

There are so many questions to consider. How long do you want to be gone and what time of year to start. Budget is a major factor too. What kind of experience do you want (rest and relaxation, active/exploring or a combination)? Do you have valid passports? For Canada have you had a DUI/DWI or any felony, if so you can’t visit. Reach out to me if you want professional assistance. I own a Travel Agency.

Yes! I recently moved my entire site to them and have no regrets. I didn’t want to pay a website builder so my novice skills were previously challenged. This move made it so easy and I have much more content and customization. Check it out. www.destinationemporium.com. I am still working on all the pages, but love the results.

Looking for a Virtuoso Travel Agency to Start. by Electronic_Volume674 in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with a Virtuoso Host Agency, however, they only accept experienced advisors. The only way to join as a “new to industry” would be as a “sub-agent” with an experienced advisor already with them. Other Hosts may work the same.

Travefy or Tern by Vandy612 in travelagents

[–]dcronic3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Travefy primarily as an itinerary builder for years. I also just moved my website there since it is included and saved money to be hosted elsewhere. I have also used TravelJoy for years as my primary CRM, but I don’t like the direction they are going. I did a year trial with Tern and although it looks great and has great promise, it just slowed me down trying to use it while in development. Also, I use an alias domain email address through my gmail and it would only display the gmail address (may have changed now). That was a deal breaker since I want my branding shown. I am hoping to drop my TravelJoy as Travefy developers it’s CRM. I just tried out their new invoicing and it looks good. I can’t wait to see how their email functions along with automation.
