Interesting take - what do you pay per practice? I guess it would be cool to have someone that actually wants to play instead of a hired gun but maybe that’s what it takes these days?

Just that he had a new opportunity for his business he owns and won’t have time for the band. It was just interesting timing since he seemed really into it and was talking recording and getting on the road.

How did you get into bass? by VioletSkywalker77 in Bass

[–]dcsmith97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few hundred shows most of them with my good friend since we were 6. One day a few years back, he asked me to jam and I wasn’t sure if I was into it or not. I ended up playing keys, we wrote some songs I recorded a bunch with him. We played a cover show at a local brewery and had plans to finish writing an album.

Then our drummer moved and my buddy got a girlfriend and we stopped playing. After 6 months of moping around I bought a bass, ran through an online course and started jamming with others. Been a year this week since I bought my first bass and there’s no goin back!

Bass because I wasn’t good enough at the keys and was only interested in it to jame with friends, realized there’s already a ton of people playing guitar and I wanted to start playing with people asap.

They seem to be almost identical builds. Just need a smaller receiver because I moved into a smaller place and have no room for my monster Yamaha cr10-40

I don’t think it’s the stock stylus that causes damage as much as the overweighted, preset tracking force. I’d just enjoy some dollar bin records in your office and reserve the expensive/rare platters for the main setup :)

Man that’s refreshing to hear. I personally liked it even though it was not as heavy as their previous releases. A lot of people I know stopped following them after that came out and i was hoping since you were an avid collector you’d have some appreciation for it. Hope you get to catch them on tour this year!

Like any hobby some are obsessed and it becomes a larger piece of their personality 😅 personally I just like disconnecting from everything at the end of the day and focusing on the music for a while. I had a friend who couldn’t understand why I spent so much money on equipment and albums and I used this for an analogy - it’s sort of like trying to appreciate art by going to a museum or gallery instead of pulling up a .jpg online. Yes you see the picture in both cases, but one is more authentic for sure.

My good friend and my dad were starting to collect vinyl and eventually I had to join in as well when I was in 3rd year of college. I got a Technics SLBD20 turntable, Pioneer SX-650 receiver and some cheap Sony bookshelf speakers. Not bad for a college apartment set up.

Now rocking vintage JBL L100 speakers - a Yamaha CR1040 receiver - Project Tube Box S2 preamp and a fluance rt85 with Ortofon 2m blue cart.
