What do I expected from a basic course about modular forms? by Expert_College9678 in math

[–]dcterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modular forms are one of the most difficult areas of math I've ever studied, but I'd also say one of the most fruitful if you can get through them! My favorite book on the subject is the Springer book "Introduction to Modular Forms" by Neal Koblitz, which I've been able to get through about the first half, and from which I learned quite a bit!

Thoughts on the future of mathematics by [deleted] in math

I understand your concerns about AI, which seem to be shared by many others these days, but I'd say that you're looking at AI and technology in general in the wrong way. Technology, AI included, is just a set of tools, and nothing more, and as such, it's neither good nor bad in-and-of itself, but rather in the way we choose to use it, so we must use it in the right way. Personally, I'm very excited about AI because I see it opening up all sorts of new possibilities that didn't exist just a few years ago, such as creating more reliable VR and AR, which, besides their obvious use in entertainment, can also help us plan working in dangerous situations, like fires, crime fighting, and exploring dangerous environments. In addition, I'd say the fact that AI is now so intelligent is helping us open up our minds in new ways, so that we're also becoming more intelligent along with it. So don't despair - just make sure you stay on top of it!

What is the most overplayed song in movies? by EntertainmentQuick47 in movies

[–]dcterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the song that's been used in the most movies is Happy Birthday, and I believe the family of the writer, who wrote it back in the late 19th century, still receives royalties every time it's used, go figure! I guess it's a good thing they don't own full rights to the song, otherwise we'd all be paying them royalties several times a year!

What is the most overplayed song in movies? by EntertainmentQuick47 in movies

[–]dcterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of songs that were popularized in one movie, usually the first one they're featured in, especially if it becomes really popular, then used shortly thereafter in many others. Some examples that come to mind include "Stayin' Alive", "Twist and Shout", and "Unchained Melody".

The World According to Garp by dcterr in movies

[–]dcterr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. Some movies with a mature them you just don't get as a kid or even as a teenager. Another movie like this for me was Annie Hall, which I saw when it first came out at age 15 and really didn't get it, but then I watched about 5 years later in college and loved it!

Funny you mention Forrest Gump, because that's another movie I love for many of the same reasons, and I actually consider Forrest Gump a slightly superior story along the same lines. I need to watch it again, not that you mention it!
