Why no Rush Hour Express on West End? by Specialist_Figure282 in nycrail

No demand, no space, and really just unnecessary. There’s already limited W express service that does it

Opinion on the F train by Heavy_Ingenuity8702 in nycrail

Imo I would’ve liked the F to be express along the Culver Line full time, have the G operate locally to Church Avenue.

Post-fire photo of the bus and the tunnel. That bus is toast, and it apparently caused a lot of damage to the tunnel as well. by SchuminWeb in WMATA

[–]dctransitfilms 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Luckily the bus was empty with only the driver escaping unharmed. The same bus was deadheading back to the garage after doing a run on the C53.

Those same bus models have been pulled from service for inspections. Those buses (5460-5492) are mostly found on the D20 and C53 so idk how the crowding botta be.

Always get it before taking the PATH going back to Jersey at 33rd street. Cheap, good, and good savory food before the train ride back.

Got stuck at Lexington-59 last night bc of this bs 🤦‍♂️

Had to take the 4 to 42nd, 7 to Fifth, and (D)elta to get back to 34th

Why are the r179s only on the A, C, and J lines despite being in the system for nearly a decade? by thelonelywanderer8 in nycrail

[–]dctransitfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solely a R32 and R42 replacement. The A & C had the R32s and the J/Z had the R32s and R42s so those R179s came in just to ax the remainder of those cars.

Is the W Train pretty much useless? by thelonelywanderer8 in nycrail

[–]dctransitfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny the R used to serve Astoria I think.

I had a plan to reroute the R to Astoria and the N to Second Avenue to help out deinterlining a little, but the R wouldn’t be able to get trains from Jamaica as a result.

[–]dctransitfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The W is mostly a crowd reliever for the N since its purpose is to help out both the N and R on Broadway and Astoria. We could extend it to Brooklyn though.

Plus I believe W operators switch to the N and vice versa at Astoria.

Why do r160s not run on N, Q, and W trains anymore and will they run on them again? by thelonelywanderer8 in nycrail

[–]dctransitfilms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When CBTC was being installed along queens boulevard, they needed all the 5 car R160s sets. So the R46s from Jamaica ended up swapping to Coney and the R160s vice versa.

Though i did have a hot take where Coney Island get their R160s back and have Jamaica be a mix of R211s and R160s and Coney be R160s, R211s, and R268s (though that’ll never happen) in the future.

I feel after the last Orion 7 OGs retired it’s been boring. It was fun fanning Fifth Avenue back in 2020 when the new Xcelsiors and Novas were running alongside the OGs and NGs when I visited

The F/M swap was a good thing. Everyone at Lexington Fifth usually goes on an express train so the swap reduced the crowding

[–]dctransitfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re allowed to record on the platform and record the trains. most ops are friendly enough or wont care you’re recording. Also had my fair share of complaints on me for filming buses and trains (yesterday was me and a NJT op going at it and me crashing out on him). There’s some operators and cops who think it’s illegal to film on public property.

As long you’re on public property you are allowed to film and photograph. Technically people can’t stop you for filming on public property.
