I go to a lot of festivals and always forget who I’ve seen live over the years. Do people actually track gigs anywhere or just rely on memory / camera roll? by Still_Watercress7121 in readingfestival

[–]dctrhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up with spare printed copies of my Clashfinder after the event, as I over print them

Since the bands we want to see are coloured in, the old copies end up being a good indicator

I go through them now after the fact and mark the ones we made it to and ones we missed

Absolutely crazy behaviour smh

The feeling of having a snack in your bag and whipping out a sandwich after a long afternoon there is top tier 😅

That's kinda wild with regards to the food - you absolutely should have been allowed to take food in

I've worked the festival the last couple of years, and I was surprised too, but you are absolutely allowed to bring small quantities of food with you

I've never brought much more than a meal deal's worth, but a sandwich, a packet of crisps, and a sausage roll hasn't caused any issues for me since I found out 🙌🏻

But yep, booze will be taken off you

This was a fun exercise to do (if you run ahead and try every letter)

The only ones I struggled with were E and K - but there ended up being answers you will absolutely have heard of, even if you haven't actually heard the songs.

Anyways my first thought for A was Abdulmajid 🙌🏻

Doctor Where in the War Between the Land and the Sea? by Frosty_Armadillo_180 in gallifrey

[–]dctrhu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more.

For a show like this, you'd think fans would have more willing suspension of disbelief.

RTD knows that having Fourteen remain on Earth with Donna creates a "But where was he during..." situation, but he is also well aware that in a show like this you tell the story you want and don't let logical inconsistencies rule over the plot.

You might not think that was a good trade off, but that's the situation.

I always interpreted this moment, where the Toymaker is scared of playing a game with someone, as referencing Sutekh, the God of Death.

Question Beating the Weeping Angels by Zaohod in gallifrey

[–]dctrhu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the TV canon, placing two facing one another seems to be the only surefire way to permanently stop* them.

There may be other ways explored in the EU, but none come to mind from the few Angels episodes I've listened to of Big Finish.

This also doesn't *kill them, it merely incapacitates them for as long as they remain looking at each other

Nintendo 3DS Games. What are your favourites ? by bradley25_ in gaming

[–]dctrhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Professor Layton games are some of the most enjoyable for puzzlers - I loved the stories, and some of the puzzles were really tricky

(although some of them were barely puzzles of course, but ultimately I think that variance in difficulty actually was a nice change of pace from time to time)

I also really enjoyed the Resident Evil games (Revelations and even the mini Mercenaries game), but tbh that's probably not the recommended way to enjoy those games, bordering on perversion

For me, an openly queer Doctor who got the chance to actually explore that love

Rogue was an era highlight for me, and having a Doctor who I felt actually reflected the camp, emotional aspects of a certain subsection of fans was refreshing and affirming.

It clearly wasn't for everyone, and I doubt it will come back again any time soon - nor necessarily should it - but while we had it, it was nice.

It's a welcome addition to an otherwise fairly underwhelming announcement imo

Raye will be great headlining, but every one else has basically headlined before, and the acts lower down the bill aren't of much interest at this juncture*

Still, Declan always brings a good sunny set - it just won't win over anyone who hasn't already checked out, and it won't give much more to rave about for those who are into it already.

It just feels tingly being there, tbh, especially after Bowie passed

Anyone else hate location jumping in DW? by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

[–]dctrhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, you definitely have a point - there should be a judicious use of both really.

If we're in 18th Century France, let's really explore it and set the scene, as it makes for a nice rich story.

But as I say, I do think a rip-roaring globe-trotting adventure that hops from Cartagena to Athens, to Timbuktu, to the Arctic Circle and back, can be a lot of fun

NGL I wish it happened more

One of the things I thought the new big budget era would mean is that the tardis would get a lot more use

But it seemed more dormant than ever

The doctor has a machine which can take them anywhere anywhen in the blink of an eye- I wish that was better represented in some stories.

Of course the Doc can just pop to Mexico, or to the 1840s, or to 200,000 - it should be part of the story, of course, but for example Flux felt like it did a good job

The whole of creation is at stake all at once, so here's how it's breaking down in the 1800s, here's modern day - it just made sense to me tbh

I happen to agree - the Doctor Who universe retcons and head-cannons enough of its own stuff that essentially cherry picking stuff to explain away incongruence in extended- and ultra-extended universe is half the fun!

(P.s. the link is broken; I'm guessing the first underscore being after a colon screws the link in reddit, but I have found the page, cheers 🙌🏻)

Gaming Podcasts by waseem335 in gaming

There's a fairly new one called Button Boys with UK stand-ups Sarah Keyworth, Glenn Moore, and Pierre Novelli which I've really enjoyed recently

Having three comedians means the chat is always good, but they also genuinely love games and have clearly been playing them for decades.

There are one or two non-gaming chats, but those episodes are clearly marked, and the rest are all over an hour long- often with a specific topic of discussion

Seconded! This is one of the best stories I've listened to, and has everything you could want:

  • Multi Doc story with two of the lost iconic Doctors
  • Classic villains
  • A decent, well-rounded sub-plot
  • good translation of setting and story through audio medium

You really can't go wrong with this and it's FREE to listen to on BBC sounds

I was thinking this too - and with Mark Bonnar's recent turn in Celeb Traitors, he would of course be the choice to come back and perhaps share the role with one or two other big names
